I'm having Hedman shorty headers on my AFR 190 (224/230 roller cam) heads and I'm planning to switch them, because they seems to be not the best choice for those heads. I had to remove some material from headers during the installation to be sure that headers primary tube is at least same size as exaust port of head.

So I'm planning to put some other headers, that fit without any problems. Are 1 3/4 headers (SLP shorties or Hookers LTs) only choice? Why are dyno tests on AFRs site made with 1 5/8 headers? Is there any 1 5/8 that have bigger flanges and entry ports? What kind of headers are you using on AFR 190 heads?

If your heads are ported, you will have to open up the slp 1 3/4 headers to your exhaust port. I used fel-pro 1406 gaskets and had to have them opened up to match the heads.

Don't get the hooker longtubes if you have straight plug heads.

Hummmm.... that gives me hope. Running AFR 195 heads and I want to run the larger 1 3/4 primary full lengths. Is that what you've got or the 1 5/8? Did you put a dent in the header to clear any spark plugs?

Yes thay are 1 3/4 primarys with no dents for spark plug boots you will have to rout the driver side spark plug wires for 1 and 3 rout from under instead of over the valve covers.

i dont personally run them, but my buddy has a set of AFR 190's on his 71 Chevelle, and we ran the 1 5/8 Hooker Comp's on it, and they fit perfectly. he has the straight plugs and we didnt have to remove any material.

Been wanting to put the bigger 1 3/4 full lengths on for a long time now, just never came across any info if people have done it with straight plugs. Need to catch up to a buddy's car that runs 11.90's on the motor slowly getting there too.

The dart iron heads that he is talking about use the .460 inch reach plugs which are shorter than the .750 inch reach plugs that the AFR and other aftermarket aluminum heads use.

Hooker 2210 longtubes and AFR heads with straight plugs equal bad day on the #7 spark plug.

bleh, shot down my little spark of hope lol... looks like now I wont be getting any headers anyway before the next race, unexpected repairs have come up on my Toyota 4x4 grrrrr It's an 83 with original front axle seals, guess what happens when the person before you doesn't ever use 4 wheel drive and you do. You make one big mess.
