Umm, there is always a exhaust manifold/header gasket. did u maybe use a header gasket with a stock exhaust manifold or the other way around? that may cuz a leak, bolts not torqued down enough? Use any RTV?

There were no gaskets with the stock manifolds. Myself along with many other people here removed our manifolds and found no gaskets.
Do you have headers on there now, or the stock manifolds? I don't think using a gasket with stock manifolds would cause them to leak though.

Yes I used hi temp rtv and torqued 'em properly but it slowly developed a leak.Im gonna put a stethascope to it and find exactly where its leaking and then ditch the gasket(s).Should I use rtv w/out the gasket?are there headers I can run that meet DEQ standards?

RTV should not be used on exhaust systems.
Hooker, Hedman, Edelbrock, Mac, and SLP all make emissions-legal headers. They won't fit your stock cat, however.

One option is to get a direct-fit cat for '86-'90 TPI single cat and modify the cat-back to fit it. The cat will slip on to the y-pipe of any of those manufacturer's product for that application.
I haven't checked, but Edelbrock may actually make a set that will bolt to your cat.
Dual cats reduces your choices to Edelbrock and Hedman (not sure about Mac). Also increases the cost since you'll need to buy two cats. And still modify your cat-back (or replace).
