Service Engine Light Comes On Catyletic Convertor & EGR?
I have a Red 1986 Iroc Z28 Camaro 305 TPI 700-R4. While i am driving down the road the service engine light will pop on and off briefly... It wont stay on for long periods of time.... a friend of mine who went to a tech school with me says it is the Catyletic Converter (clogged) or the EGR. I also checked the Smog pump filter and the Charcoal Filter for Emissions and there both dirty and i will replace today! what do you guys think? my camaro failed Emissions..... of course the girl who had it before me killed the poor car going 100 MPH into a guard rail... let me know what you guys/gals think... thanks
Brian
I installed a:
Brand New O2 Sensor

MAF Relay
K & N Air Filters
Exhuast looks new but i havent touched the exhuast at all
*I should be getting about 300-350 Miles on a full tank but its only about 275-290*

some mechanics are saying its a clogged catyletic converter or its the egr? whats do you think? the exhaust that comes out doesnt smell at all really. like usually when a cat goes it smells like eggs
could it also be the fuel pressure regulator?
the codes that i kept bringing up are
code 34
code 36

when the tank gets below 1/4 it stalls... anyone got any ideas? and the service engine light takes atleast 20-25 mins to come on after the car has been running... i think its the catletic converter and the EGR

i ripped out my spark plug and it snapped in half trying to take it out... it looks as though to much carbon over time destroyed the plugs... i replaced it and it seems to run better not by much but im sure it helped
this thursday i am getting plugs/wires/ fuel filter

If the car runs ok until you get to a certain RPM. Then won't rev any higher, and slowly gets worse over time. Its most likly a clogged cat. Car did not throw any codes in my case..

i did the spark plugs.... they havent been changed since 1997 .... a/c delco's were in them. the egr in my car is very hard to move which its suppost to be easy for the vacuum to pull it so i am going to switch it when i can... my service engine light is constantly on now and my gas has increased because of the spark plugs but i can smell a lot of unburnt fuel which is why the position of the egr is stuck open.... and i failed emissions... i have to go back for it thursdays sept 22 2006
Hey I have an 1986 camaro and I just had my check engine light come on for a few seconds and then shut off for a few n then come back on n immediatly go off....i was wondering if this might be a similar problem that your having? I just recently put a flowmaster catback on my car so that got me thinkin or mayb from my cat. shield rattling but thats been happening for a few months and the light has never come on....also some times when i go to start my car its kind of hard to start cranking it, so say I go and turn my car on I turn it all the way but seems like it doesn't make contact n I'll have to play w. it a little, could it be from my key chain? well thanks and hope to hear from some one!
