Which 3" muffler do ya'll like more?
I have searched and read a lot about the Hookers but what about the Magnaflows? I am going to be switching from one muffler to two mufflers coming up running 3" pipe with dual cats. I was wondering which one yall like more? I know a lot of people are liking the hookers but anyone have a comment on the magnaflows? Thanks for the comments.
I want a deep/healthy tone at idle with no resonance and an aggressive WOT is fine.

I've heard Magnaflow exhausts and like them quite a bit but don't have as much experience with them.
I have a Hooker Aerochamber cat-back on my car and I love how it sounds and idle and cruising. Not bad resonance at all. Most exhausts on these cars really don't as long as you don't have any exhaust leaks. Sounds nice at WOT I think as well. By far, my favorite cat-back I think.

Yea just don't know...its a hard decision..i have a couple of months but just trying to get all the info i can on them to make it right the first time or at least close. I am going to run an X-pipe too so...that helps. I was listening to some of teh sound clips...didn't see many magnaflows but the hookers a little raspy and pops from the sound clips. Anybody got anything to say about the magnaflows?

I have a single outlet Aero Chamber on my strip car and a magnaflow on my daily. I like them both, the magnaflow has a little more rasp while the Hooker has a deeper note to it. It's quieter with the Hoker which is what I wanted, it's a sleeper. WOT it sounds pretty nasty.

So you saying the Hooker is quieter than the magnaflow...I've always heard the opposite. What size hooker and magnaflow are you running? When you say nasty WOT...its it poppy and like a tinny sound or a deep/healthy tone?

The magnaflow is on my daily that has TES, no cat and 3" pipe. The Hooker is on my '90 with a cammed 383, hedmans and 3" pipe. It's a single outlet. The magnaflow has more rasp. WOT the Hooker isn't raspy at all, hard to describe. They make two versions, the aero chamber and another. I have the quieter of the two.
Have you checked out the sound clips "stick" thread?

Yea.....the Hooker sounded raspy on a couple of them. I am looking at getting the Hooker Aerochamber/maxflow or Magnaflow in a 3" center/center inlet/outlet for better flow. I will have two cats, X-pipe in front of the cats and then dual mufflers. I think the Aerochamber is the quieter of the two. The maxflow flows more but no one has ran the maxflow so I don't know how it sounds compared to the Aerochamber.

I just heard someone say that the maxflow is loud and has a problem with drone so I guess its between the aerochamber or magnaflow. I am leaning aerochamber...anyone else got a comment before I order some?

i have the hooker supercomp catback with my mostly stock setup. it's got a slow, deep idle but at WOT it's pure muscle. no snap, crackle, pops. definitely a deep, healthy tone.

I dont have my dynomax part# handy, but, if you are making 500 hp, you need a single muffler that flows 1100 CFM. Or 550 CFM, if you are using true duals. The FM flow does not even come close. IIRC, the FM is somthing like 490 CFM, on the single muffler.

I've heard all of the big names that makes systems on 3rdgens... Hooker, Flowmaster, SLP, Magnaflow, and Dynomax.
Flowmaster is too raspy and 'peaky' sounding, SLP sounds like stock, but with a little more growl, Magnaflow sounded ok, but nothing special, Dynomax sounded basically stock. Hooker sounded alot like the old muscle cars... deep and really throaty, but not over-the-top.
(Just my opinion though)
I chose the Hooker system for my Z28, and I don't regret it for a second

Yeah, I have to second Edelbrock. And if your making a custom system, they have a new muffler out as well. I have a Mustang magazine from a few years ago, they test all the big names for sound and power. 2 guys did the article. In the end, the older guy chose a 3 chamber Flowmaster, while the younger guy chose an Edelbrock, noting it sounded like a typical television hotrod. Granted they went on Mustangs, which will sound different, but hopefully it gives you food for thought.
