Edelbrock Header Problems, is there a cure?

I've had my edelbrock headers installed for over a year. And i love the performance gain i achieved. But at the same time i wish they made these headers better. I have a couple things i'd love to complain about but one that makes me just pissed.

Anyone else have bad stories or a fix to my problem?

Donut Gaskets... Who uses these in the aftermarket world? My donut gaskets spend more time falling out then serving their purpose. I'd love to convert these to 3 bolt flanges.

One day i'd love to go to a true dual exhaust system, but there is no way to hook a pipe up to these headers.

Anyone actually cut the 2 bolt donut flange off and welded a 3 bolt flange on? Can it be done?

I have put these headers on two cars a 87 and a 88. The owners have not had any trouble with the donut gaskets. The only one that leaked was on the 87 and it was not tightened up corectlly after a starter change out. Both have been removed and installed at least 2 times, one set is on it's 4th motor. Sounds like your's are not mating up corectlly?

I started to cut off the collector and weld in a hooker 3 bolt flange to my edlebroke headers to keep it from leaking as bad but the welds inside the collector broke and it was leaking from the middle of the collector where all the pipes merged. I switched to hedman lts and i wish that i would have bought the hedmans first and never wasted my money on the edlebrokes. I spent 349.00 3 or 4 years ago for headers/ypipe and now i bought headman lt for 139.99.

if you are thinking of running true dualls in the future do not waste your time cutting and welding up the edlebrock headers and trying to make them work into a dual system. It is probably cheaper and easier to get lt headers and then run a true dual exhaust even if you have to save up a little money to buy some new parts.

Ya you can fix it. Take your donut gaskets to an exhaust shop or the whole car preferably. Drop the y pipe and measure the inside diameter of the pipe. Have them cut a short 1-1.5 inch long piece of pipe the next size smaller that the inside dia. measurement. Using they're bender they can open 1/2 of this little pipe to fit snuggly in the gasket then open the remaining portion to fit snuggly in the pipe. This will align the gasket with the pipe so it stays aligned correctly at all times. It will also hold the gasket in position while you are raising the pipe into place so you don't have to hold and raise at the same time. The drawback is that this little sleeve will reduce the inside diameter of your gasket a little bit, but it will correct your gasket problem, I guarantee you it will. I used this trick a hundred times.
