Use half of it to buy LT's, and bullet mufflers, then run true duals... use the other half to pay off a smog guy

use it to buy some common sense that would stop you from drawing attention to a 305.

Yeah, you're not allowed to put loud exhaust on any SBC 305 cubic inches or less. Must be 350 or more. This will be a law passed by the year 2010, as it's already going through congress.

WTF? Way to help the guy. And if you can't find a strong 350 for under $1000 then you're a complete moron. You can get a bare block, bore it out, get decent pistons and have it assembled for under $1000.

Well, I'll be the first to say it then...

Hooker 2055 Headers (includes Y-Pipe)
Catco O2 Sensor
Catco 3" OEM Style Cat.
Hooker 3" Catback

Best Bang for the buck, it'll scream, it's all bolt-on so you can do it at home, and if/when you decide to drop in a 350, it'll bolt right up.

Yeah, maybe a used stock shortblock or a slammed together stock rebuild. Notihng that will make any power for any amount of time

As far as loudest just get a cut-off. Still legal.

As far as productive, just get some Shorty Headers and a cut-out. still legal.

what do you guys mean about a law regarding exhausts on 305s, as opposed to 350's?...can someone explain that so it makes sense (so that its logical)? Thanks

Back to topic...................ummmmmmmmmmm.............

just slap a flowmaster catback on. Save the rest of your money for stuff later on. And when I say later on, I mean right now.

if you can't build a decent running 350 for a grand you suck at life

Budget 350:

Stock 350 from junkyard
reuse crank/rods, pistons if you dont have to bore
416 heads from a 305 motor, port them yourself. They'll flow okay and have high compression.
Cam matched to your setup
TPI swapped from 305

It's easy and it'll run 14s.

Now if you want to get faster you'll have to either A. Get more creative or B. Get more money.

14's ? If you wasted a grand, plus your own labor to run 14's you might as well hang yourself. A stock l98 will run 14 flat with just headers and catback, and tuning. I know, we did it this summer on my friends girlie GTA.

How about put the grand in the bank, and match it with another 3-4 and build a decent setup.

HAHAHA.... I just added a set of cheapo headers and a cutout to a smogger, 8:1 CR, crap headed 350 and it outruns L98 cars by 5mph!!

I'm almost positive headers, a catback and tuning cost money. Basically he said how to build a 350 that can run 14s without changing the things you mention, so looks like he's one step ahead once he could theoretically afford a decent exhaust.

anesthes, that list was assuming the car didnt come with a 350 in the first place.

if it did (350 TPI for instance), then I bet my life I could make it run 12s consistantly with just a grand. Of course i have a couple hook ups and would do EVERYTHING myself..

I swapped my 305 out for a 350 and I'll be at 12s for just about a grand once I get my Torque Converter.
