Full length or shorties

I cant decide whether to put full length headers or shorties on my 84 t/a. Are there any advantages one has over the other? I want full length b/c it seems to make the exhaust routing a little easier. And if im not mistaken, full length headers give you more power. Are there any installation issuues? Thanks yall.

Full length makes exhaust routing extremely difficult and typically kills (okay, at least reduces) ground clearance. Full length may give more power in the end, but you can be sure they will not make enough difference on a stock LG4 over decent shorties to be worth the hassles they will produce.

If emissions inspection is an issue for you now or in your future, you don't have much choice but shorties.

Its an L69, not an LG4. Emissions is not an issue, i live in tennessee, so it aint a prob.It just seems that when you put a set of full length headers on, the collectors are right there in the right psoition ready to run it straight back, but with sorties id probabbly have to get some 45 degree bends to bring the pipe down. Oh and i was just plannin on puttin the headers on for a while and just leavin it at that, lol, i know. Illegal and loud, ha. But i was thinkin about puttin a set of hookers on it on just boltin up a pair of the purple hornies with the 3 bolt flanges and callin it quites. Cheap, fast , straight through performance, but it might be a tad to loud.

Pretty much the same story for the L69.

If you look over the pics of duals and long tubes, you'll find that ground clearance is an issue, even with a truncated system like you're suggesting.

Youll need cutom bend pipes to get decent clearance.

Wish i had some good pics but heres my setup, anything more than a pebble on the road and i drag the pipes on it, never have hit the headers once though.

Hedman LTs going to 2.5" pipe, straight out to L pipes which dump infront of the rear tire.

This is VERY loud, i have been warned numerous times and ticketed for "excessive noise" Sounds nice though and has that nascar scream @ 4K+ RPM

Heres a crappy pic you might get the idea.
