True Dual 3 inch on a 383...

I finally got the new motor running.

I had a 383 built
508 hp
560lb ft at the motor, on the motor dyno

Fully forged bottom end
11 to 1 compression

ported dart pro 1 200cc heads
2.02 intake 1.6 exhaust valves
custom hyd roller cam
edelbrock rpm air gap intake
nos super powershot (has yet to been used, still breaking motor in)
holly 750 dub pump, tuned on dyno

i have gone through 2 700R4 tranny builds in a month and a half, and i am switching to a turbo 400 real soon.
I went with the hooker super comp 1 3/4 long tubes, a full 3 inch setup with X pipe, and flowmaster 1 chamber delta flows.

this clip is open header with theese little turn downs i got. i will get a clip of the exhaust when i get back on thursday...

the car is leaking trans fluid, yes i know...

the clip of the car at the track was with 1 5/8 shorties, dual 2 1/4 pipes into 1 flowmaster 80 series.. EEK 8.0 @ 90mph with killed tranny.
it ran 7.8's the rest of the night.

Sounds pretty nice, with 2.5" pipes and hooker or borla muffs , it would be sweet for the street

Uh no. Gotta let that thing breath and dual 2.5 will not cut it. It's been proven on a couple friends' cars when switching from dual 2.5 to dual 3, they ran better at the track. Even my car, some people may say single 3 inch was just fine but, what a huge difference going to dual 3 inch.

+1 for dual 3". 2 1/2" exhaust will be on the restrictive side n/a and a cork on the bottle.

EvilCartman:- How much better did your friends cars run at the track? Did their dyno numbers improve? At what horsepower level would you recommend changing from a dual 2.5inch system to a dual 3inch system?

Many thanks for all your input! I'm interested as I currently have a dual 2.5inch set-up but will be increasing my power output significantly in the next year or two.

No dyno numbers other than the butt dyno telling him that it was quicker around the street. At the track, he went from 12.70's to 12.30's (your mileage may vary) The other friend's car had too many changes between runs but the car did run the same numbers with and without the exhaust, on the same day. As a guess on what hp level for the switch, 430 - 450.
