Take that $225 and find a set of used headers. $225 will not be enough to run flowtechs. You will need to add at least $50+ on top of that to buy the best (thickest) collector and head flange gaskets. Those headers will leak at all places and buying expensive gaskets doesn't cure the problem but helps. The supplied gaskets and bolts are junk and will not last. The y-pipe is garbage and has the worst possible flow features desinged into it. It is not much better than stock in that regard.

I would rather run restrictive stock exhaust manifolds than flowtech headers.

Do they have to be new? You will spend $350 for a quality set of shorty headers. Anything less and you run the risk. I would look at hedmans. I believe they have a kit that costs slightly less. Other than that your options are to look used.

Edlebrocks will work but they are less than ideal (use the search function to learn more). However, they are leaps and bounds better than flowtechs/summit's. The different edelbrock kits that you list all have various y-pipe sizes. They make their kits application specific so that it will hook up to the rest of the stock exhaust. If you are going to run a 3" cat and or no cat with a 3" cat-back I would choose the system that is tailored for the 350 L98. I would also suggest buying uncoated headers and having them coated at a reputable place (IE Jet hot or equivalent). I have yet to see a set of coated headers from any header manufacturer that look/last worth a damn. They typically cheap out on their coatings.

If you do not coat them you can paint them with high temp paint. That will help keep corrosion down.

Call the folks at Jet-Hot. 1-800-432-3379. They can quote you the price of a set of coated Headman headers and matching coated y pipe. Kit comes with misc. stuff to install them but, the gaskets are disposable so allow yourself a few extra bucks for a good set of gaskets.
