Consumer Beware: Edelbrock Ti-Tech Coating

here are my edelbrock ti-tech coated headers i put on last summer (they havent even been on for a full year)...the coating is never supposed to rust..well that was bs. The y-pipe is rusted the worst, all the rust seems to be surface rust but it will get worse. this is Indiana weather...never driven in the snow, but driven in the rain, and parked outside 80% of the year

That coating must be a joke, if in less than a year that's what it looks like.

How can they even compare that to a true ceramic powdercoat?

Does Edelbrock's warranty on the headers help you at all? http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...warranty.shtml

Maybe this post should also be in the Aftermarket Product review forum. After seeing your experience, I wouldn't buy anything with this TI-Tech coating.

Yea that is some pretty sad ****. For gods sake my stock y-pipe has nearly no rust on it after 14 years. Dont know how much the other owner drove it in the rain but i drove it the rain atleast 10-20 times since ive had it. Very surprised and disappointed by edelbrock...

im pretty sure edelbrock has a warranty for them but you have to fill out a paper and i was too lazy to do that and i lost it. plus they would probably just send me new headers, and i dont want to go through removing and installing them again.

It's high-temp paint.

Do they really claim it is as good as ceramic coating? I haven't seen that, but the wording is weaseled to make you think that without actually saying it.

It is always best to buy headers bare and then have them taken/sent to a reputable coater. Jet Hot sells many of these headers direct so you don't have to deal with the shipping twice.

i never would have bought these if i didnt read the words "wont rust". i remeber thinking all i need are headers that wont rust, i dont care if they look shiny; so ti-tech coating was a good choice for me... it seems they have reworded all the reviews about them (like on summit.com and edelbrocks website)

they never said it was as good as ceramic coating but they did say it wouldnt rust. i thought it was for people who wanted to have rust free headers but didnt want to pay for shiny ceramic coated ones.

oh well, live and learn. its not like they are crap, they were $400 and will probably last a good 1-2 years more. buy then i will just get new heads and better headers and install them at the same time. im keeping these ulgy things on untill they get rust holes and leak.

Technically it wasn't the coating that rusted, it was the metal underneath it.

They do say that it's supposed to be as "durable" as ceramic, and that it won't peel, chip or flake off, but I don't remember seeing any claims that it would never rust.

Re: Consumer Beware: Edelbrock Ti-Tech Coating

I got the chrome version of those headers and they still look perfect after two years of driving in Pennslyvania.

I agree that it's a high-temperature paint, but this appears to be a comparison.

They also feature Edelbrock's Ti-Tech coating, a high-temperature, heat resistant finish that's as durable as a ceramic coating, and which becomes harder and more abrasion resistant after use. Ti-Tech coating delivers superior protection because it won't chalk, flake or burn off like other finishes.
The above taken from a 2005 news release about their new SDT mufflers.
http://www.edelbrock.com/media/news/...e/030905a.html

This earlier press release about the TI-Tech coating is not as aggressive on its virtues.

I have the same setup and the exact same thing happened....except my rust was much worse. I just repainted the headers with high temp paint.

I painted the headers at the start of last year and it has held up pretty well. There was a little bit of flaking towards the end of last year but otherwise the result was pretty good.

I don't remember the brand exactly....but it was just a spray can bought from advanced auto or auto zone.... the one that is good up to like 1300 degrees.

Actually I have another quetion for you. Where did you order your y-pipe from. Mine was on the car when I bought it...and there is a sizable dent that i had to cut out and repair. So I was thinking about ordering another one.
