curious is all....if I were to drop in some shorty headers, with y-pipe to a 3" catback (edlebrock muffler) no cat....would it be too excessive for many.....should resonators be installed?

Axle/Gears: bunch of 10 bolts how scary is that
I did it on a L03 I guess I can chime in.

It sounds pretty nice at idle but at above 2500 RPM or WOT its a little to loud lol. I would suggest putting a muffler on and then just getting a cut-out for the special occasions.

Your system is far from the same as running open headers. That set-up will be loud but not nearly as loud as with open headers. Adding a cat to that set-up will quiet things down even farther. The sound of open headers on stock LO3 and LG4 cars is terrible. It sounds like a worn out old pick-up and nothing that resembles performance.

yeah that's a long way from open headers.

it will sound decent with your planned setup.

yea sorry, I didnt mean 'open headers' rather headers without resonators.....that edlebrock muffler does a decent job of toning noise down...though I did notice a difference when I took the cat off, thanks!

we run open Y-ipe with headers on wheelstandin87's LG4 for months now and even though it sounds like a nascar, we love it.

well i ran yesterday my LO3 with open shortys and man it sounds like crap....like a freakin engine about to die.....and like others mentioned...like an old truck..nothing like performance....i will be picking up today my car and all i had added on it was a 2.5 y pipe with a single cat...and since i did not want to wait...the cat is a 2.5 in/out.......i had two but theses guys said it two cats would not fit...so i settled for the single cat...i am not building the car for performance but more for looks and just a little nice sound....the car will have in the next two weeks some bullet mufflers...but for now that is it....2.5 y pipe, 2.5 in/out catco cat and the rest of the pipe should be 3' with a y pipe after the axle with 2.5 dual pipes... i hope it doesnt sound loud.....
