picking the right headers
I have a 1990 Trans with a 5.0 TPI and automatic. It is completely stock except for transmission work and a K&N filter. I have been wanting to put headers on and I really like the Edelbrock TES ceramic headers, but I dont know how difficult of an install that it would be. If Edelbrock would not be the best choice, what else would be? I also like Hooker. BUT they must be able to pass emmissions testing. I plan to follow these up with a 3" exhaust system and a hi-flow converter. Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I think that the Hookers would probably be the best deal, my frienbd has some of the emission legal Edelbrocks and I am not the craziest about them, I dont know why not. I have just heard alot about Hooker being on this site. I think the Y-pipe is also good. I got the hedmans, but I really dont care because I could afford them and anything is better than stock.

2055's are first rate, the y-pipe the best made, IMO.

what i mean is, I've been looking on summitracing.com and JEGS but all they have is Hooker 2055s for $389.99, which are painted black. Summit has a pair of 2055 headers (ceramic coated) for over $700 and i know that those aren't the right ones(they dont even look like the 2055's should). So where did everyone get their Hooker 2055's? How much? and how are they coated?

If your not planning on keeping the car for a very long time, then I wouldnt spend the money for the ceramic coating. I know that my car isnt going to last for the next few years so I just settled for the painted ones. I would say get the headers from Summit and find a place on the side to ceramic coat them.

My headers are the Hedman hedders with AIR stuff on them. They cost me $350 shipped to my door from Summit. If you can afford it, it is probably best to go with the Hooker 2055's because the Y-pipe is better and they still have the AIR hookups on them. Cermaic coating is a bit of money, im not sure how much but I know very expensive, that is why I didnt bother. I am sure you can find somewhere that will do it cheaper than you can get them from summit though.

I put the Edelbrock TES on my car with a Catco converter and Dynomax Super Turbo catback exhaust. Everything fit up fine and it sounds perfect to me. Not real loud but a nice deep mellow tone. I put the headers in with the engine out and even so there was some work involved to get everything just right. I don't know if I would tackle this in the car unless I really, really wanted headers.

I really really want headers on this car, but if the installation would be too difficult then my dad wont let me do it. I'm 17 and have this car but cant drive it until I'm 18 (because of insurance). If anyone has any tips or advice on installing the Hooker 2055's with a 3" Catco converter and Flowmaster catback (I have a flowmaster now and love the tone), and where to get them ceramic coated cheaply, please let me know. thanks alot.

Does anybody have an article on how to install the Hooker 2055 headers besides the ones from Holley?

I have the Edelbrock ceramic coated headers, got them from summit racing. The install wasn't bad, took the weekend, but I also did a catco cat and a catback system the same time. The only problems I had was that on the D/S the steering shaft had to come off and on the P/S I had to dent the corner of the heater box to get the header to slide back far enough. After having the headers for almost a year I'v noticed that there is a brown dis-coloration on the headers. Also the y-pipe is not coated and its covered with surface rust. Not sure if I would by another set or not. But on the plus side the kit was very complete and I didn't have to buy anything else.
