Heres a good question (or really stupid) about welding the exhuast system

I was quoted 400 to have headers, cat, and catback installed. I'd like to save some bucks by doin most the install myself and jus havin the shop weld it.
I'm mechanically inclined, but exhaust work is new to me. I don't weld. No tools, no where to do it. I want to pay someone to weld in my exhaust. BUT, can I install the header and fit the cat to it, and catback to to the cat, and have them hanging by the hangers so I can drive it 2 mins to a shop to get it all welded together?

Be nice if this question is nonsense.

I would think that you could install the headers, y pipe, and cat yourself, those are easy enough. I am not too sure about the catback, that may require a lift or lots of time. 400 bux sounds very steep to me. I paid $100 plus 2 cases of Budweiser to have the exhaust shop in town here install my y-pipe and 4" Mufflex. Of course you are in Philly and I am in MS!!!

one problem might be removing your cat from your car...if you get your stock y-pipe off, the cat might not detach, but you could just cut it off...the headers and y-pipe are not that hard to do, but the cat-back you'd probably need a shop to do because the rear end needs to be up really high to get the I-Pipe over the axel...so if you could do the headers and y-pipe, pluls the cat, then you could just "rig" it up so that you can drive it to the shop and have them throw on the cat-back

I'm looking to use the Hooker catback (HOK-16823HKR), and in the image on summit the i-pipe is in two pieces. I'll try clamping it together while its up in the car.

If the I-Pipe is in (2) pieces then you can probably do it yourself with ease...when its a single pipe, then its tough to do unless the car is on a lift
