MAC headers and y-pipe any good?
MAC headers and y-pipe any good?
Hey guys, this is my first post! I don't even actually have a camaro yet, but I will hopefully be purchasing one tomorrow. Anyway, has anyone tried the MAC Performance Single Cat Header System (http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=15568)? They claim 21 rwhp, though I doubt that claim. But are they decent? Has anyone had any experience with them? I was thinking of getting them, a new cat (any suggestions?), and a Borla Cat Back system. All in all, it won't be cheap, but would it be a good setup? Is 200 hp be a reasonable estimate with those mods?
Thanks for any advice,
Frank
P.S. It's a 305 TBI btw.

I have not personally installed a set but from what I have seen (in pictures and in person) they appear to be a great choice. Their y-pipe rivals the hooker and SLP units and fit and finish seems great. Their AIR tube is also discrete and isn't such an eye sore compaied to others. If you do decided to run these take pictures and report back. TGO doens't have enough info on these headers and we need a guinea pig!

Borla doesn't make headers for our cars. They only make a cat-back.

I have no experience with Borla, but I hear they're one of the best. But I'm partial to my Random Technology exhaust. *shameless plug*
And I can't speak for MAC's headers, but I have the MAC stock-replacement Y-Pipe, which is made like the one that comes with their headers, and it's excellent!
If I ever get headers, MAC will be considered, if for no other reason than just because that Y-Pipe is so nice. But when that time comes, I'll check them out in person first. MAC is only about 2 hours away from me. That's about a normal commute for the LA area, lol, so it's definitely no big deal when it's for fun!!!

I wouldn't get them if I were you. look at the header flange. It is not a one pieace. I have had problems on mustangs puting that kind on. They are hard to get the hole to line you once they get used. The heat wraps them and if you take them off the holes can sometimes be half the hole off.
