mac header install
I cant get over how well the mac headers went into my 86 t/a last night. After reading some horror stories about some people having to unbolt a motor mount and jack up the motor i was kind of leary about doing this install. However the only things I had to remove were the air injection hoses on the passanger side and a valve cover on the drivers side. Everything bolted up very nicely and it looks like im going to have great access to my spark plugs. I cant wait to get it closed up and see what it sounds like. Hardest part about the whole thing was getting the old y-pipe off the cat. Nothing a BFH and sawzall wouldnt solve

Any pics? I still think the Mac's are one of the more overlooked/underrated exhaust parts for these cars. I have seen a few sets in person and they look to be (in quality and design) on par with Hooker and SLP.
Congrat's on the easy install.
I've always said the MAC's are a great header. They're not too popular among this forum, but I think that's mainly because not too many people that run them ,or even seen them in other 3rd gen's.
I've seen them up close and I've always been impressed with their design. I know of atleast 4 other 3rd gen owners who have those headers and all had very similar experiences to yours. All said they were impressed with how easily they were able to install them. My mechanic highly reccomends them and says that for the money, they're just about the best headers out there for our cars and highly reccomends them.
I myself was seriously considering the MAC's but due to the fact I drive the IROC during the winter month's, I wanted something made of stainless steel so it wouldn't rust out over the winter (salt around here will rust an exhaust in a single winter
) . That was the only part about the MAC's that didn't meet my requirements. Other than that, they're fantastic headers.
Be sure to let us know how the car runs afterwards and whether the headers provided a very noticable performance improvment. I''m sure they will.
Hopefully I'll be able to throw on my SLP's I got yesterday, sometime next week.....
Congrats, again

Axle/Gears: bunch of 10 bolts how scary is that
Removing a motor mount and jacking the engine isnt hard. Removing the stock manifolds is.

Ill take some pics of them tomorow and get them posted. I did notice a gain in power, more so on the top end. Got a little deeper sound to it, very nice at cruising speed along with the hooker aerochamber catback. Yes they do have the A.I.R hookups. The only thing im a little concerned about and may have to tinker with are the gaskets. Getting a slight leak. I had them coated by jet-hot so hopefully I wont have to worry about the rust issue. Ill just send them back in for a re-coat if i see signs of it =) They had a great turn around time, After shipping them I had them back in less that a week. Very satisifed with their work as well.

If I don't go to long tubes, I would probably end up getting a set of MAC headers also. I just need to convice them to make a set with 1 3/4 primaries.
