If you have headers....
Straight boot plug wires. Will they still touch primaries with header plugs? Will boot sleeves keep them from melting? i know this has been beat to death, but i couldnt find what i needed when searching.
the reason i dont wanna buy new wires is cuz i just bought some accell 8.8mm 300+ wires, and hate to see them go. and im on a budget. thank you!!!

wires
You're probably going to need those 90 deg. boots. You may be able to buy the boots and terminals separately and crimp them onto your wires. It would be pretty much the same as if you had purchased a set of universal wires. You will also need to purchase the crimping tool. It's not just a pair of pliers.
If you run SLP's I guarantee the straight boots will not work.

I have slp and using 90 degree boots. Straight will not work but you may ask those individuals that have tried using short plugs.

well i hate hearing that. anyone with short plugs chime in please. in all my searching i saw only one person say that short plugs would work, so i dont know how reliable it is. ive looked around for just the boots and terminals and no luck. anyone know if the boot sleeves will withstand direct heat?

I'm running Hedman headers on my '88, and I had to use the straight boots long enough to make it to the parts store after installing them. With the crappy Accel short plugs, I still melted a couple of boots by the time I got home. It was a 2 mile drive round trip. I ended up getting a set of Accel 300 series wires for a 88 C1500 - they're 90 degree boots. And after about 6 months, they are already breaking down and increasing in resistance. I've decided I'm not going with the cheap wires again. From here on out I'm sticking with Taylor. Never had a bit of trouble with them.

Has anyone ever changed their boots? lol
i have a feeling you dont like accel anymore, 9ronone. sorry about your luck. i havent been around enough to have favorite companies yet, but these accels made a huge hp difference over stock not sure about longevity or durability yet.
summit does have 8.8mm 90* boots w/ terminals. i guess now i need to know if my wires can be changed over? they weren't the DIY set.
i cant afford to waste $20 on boots and $80 more for a new set of wires, all so i can do headers, mufflers and duals that all have to be paid for too haha...

If you're using the accel header plugs, watch the caps. They have a habit of coming unscrewed. Definitly not a good thing if you are spraying the motor. I switched to a set of AC Delco plugs, and they are about the same length. You paid $80 for a set of accel wires? I picked up a set of 300s for about $45. Helps having friends at the parts house, I guess. Well, whatever you end up doing, good luck with it!

on my 89 we used the accel header plugs and msd underheader wires and it seems to give enough clearence to the plugs from the header.

replacing boots
If you've already got your 90* boots, you don't have to worry about messing up your old straight boots. Just pull the boot off the wire. If the boot is sealed to the wire, use a razor knife and slice the old boot long ways. Then peel it off the wire. If you have new 90* boots and terminals, and know how to install the terminals, just cut the old boot and terminal off right at the back of the boot.
If you get the chance, check out a new set of Accel or ,my favorite, MSD universal wires. Look at the instructions and the termials in the kit. You'll have a lot better understanding of how to replace your straights with 90*'s.
Good Luck

bending straight terminals
It may be possible to bend the straight terminals. You'll need to get the old boot off to see. Some terminals have a short span between where it terminates the wire and where it clips onto the plug tip. These can usually be bent to work with 90* boots. As a matter of fact, I think I've got a full set of that style terminal. I'll look tomorrow. If yours are bendable, go for it. If not, I'll make you a deal on the set I think I have in the shed, (you pay shipping and you can have them). PM if you need them.
