headers turned molten hot after engines first startup
I just fired up my newly rebuilt 383 EFI engine and quickly revved it up to 2300 RPMS for a few minutes. The timing was still at 0 basically, since I set the engine and dizzy up at TDC and left it there hopng the engine would fire up and hold an idle. Well, it did but my drivers SLP header was glowing red hot after a few minutes. I shut it down and set the timing to 6 degreess and the glowing was reduced a little bit but its still there. It mainly glows on the bottom of the #5 tube and a little on the #7 The entire collector glows as well. The passenger side does not glow at all. I am running a FAST ECU and it states to set the timing at 6 degees. If I aim the timing light at the timing marker, it will point to the 3rd line to the left of tdc on the balancer. Each line represents 2 degrees. My balancer has readings from TDC to 20 and then from TDC to 60 or something I think. I have my timing set to the left side of the TDC mark if you where looking at it while its spinning and leaning over the front drivers side of the bumper. Is this correct? I never had this problem before. The only thing added to my engine was new rings and bearings. I just hope that I havent either fuel washed this engine or caused any other problem that would reguire a rebuild for the 5th time.

Glowing Headers
I don't know if you already did this but I would check for a vacuum leak on the side that is glowing maybe a intake gasket. You might look at your o2 sensor and idle air counts that will give you alot of info if you have a leak. Your idle air counts will be low trying to compensate for the leak. and your o2 would be lean.
