2.5" or 3" true duels? siighh..

Ok, so i have an older 1985 Camaro with a non-stock 350 engine. I'm going to be restoring the car next year and want to use it quite a bit just for fun till then. Problem is that my exhaust is totally screwed and pipes too small and obviously loud. It currently has a true duel where there are 1.5" inch turned to 2" after the mufflers exhaust pipes. They run from the shorty headers and crawl alongside underneath the driver and passenger doors, then exit directly before the rear wheel. The two mufflers are cherry bombs and give the car a nice strong and powerfull sound. I don't want to spend too much on the exhaust since i'll be restoring the car next year but yet, i want power, lol, so i guess i'll still have the exhaust exit in front of the rear wheel or jsut keeo them straight underneath the car. The car engine has a little over 400 ponies and planning on boosting it a little more later. Where I live, loudness nor the catalytic converter are a big deal. I can get 2.5" exhaust pipes for quite a cheap price anywhere, while 3" exhausts i'd need to go to a specialty shop and spend quite a bit. What kind of a difference will I see between the 2.5 inch and 3 inch systems if any at all? I'm trying to determine if that extra 0.5 inch on each exhaust will be worth it. Thanks.

Going from 1.5" exhaust to 2.5" will make a difference. 1.5" is tiny! . 2.5" on both sides will probably be too much for the amount of room available. So you might loose a bit of ground clearance.

2.5" is lots. i would think 3" is too big for true duals.

depends how much power that 350 is making. but id say 2.5 will be plenty

2.5 for true duals 3 for catback is what I've always thought.

Yep, 2 1/2" duals is good up to 500hp.

Excellent!

Cool, thanks peeps, 2.5 i'll go with. Nothing better than when most people agree with the same answer. Now all that's left to decide is whether or not i'll be using mufflers or not. lol. I'll have to test out how it sounds from the naked headers and see if it's really that bad.

you should be able to fit both pipes down the passenger side in the stock location, I had a system like this, it was made by gale banks, but was only 2 1/4. then had 2 regular turbo mufflers mounted sideways staggered in the stock muffler location, and both pipes comming out the same side of the rear
