long tubes on a lowered car..can it be done?
I want to run long tubes but my car is lowered...can it be done without a lot of ground clearance problems?....or do I have to run shorties?

You "could" run headmans as they tuck up nicely....the hookers hang a little bit lower, and since you have an auto the headmans "should "fit alot better....I can take a pic. of my headmans from the passenger side and show you the grownd clearance.
Good luck,

yeah do that for me...I was just about to edit and say that Ive heard that headmans provide better clearance than hookers...do you have 1 3/4's thats what I need...also what kind of y-pipe or pipes did you run after the headers?...do they follow the same route as the stock pipes?
thanks for the fast reply
also what is the part number of the headmans?

The headman part number is 68460 .As far as pipes/ ypipe....no way could you run them in the stock location....my exhaust is "underconstruction".I'll put up a pick in a few min.

i've got shorties but my y-pipe simulates having long tubes.
I don't like it since it is very very low to the ground since the y-pipe goes under the crossmember. i've got less than 3" of ground clearance.
i'll snap a few pics as soon as the weather clears up.

Hedman 68460s are 1 5/8" primaries.
I don't think it's going to make a difference to ground clearance whether you use Hedmans or Hookers. The lowest part of the exhaust is usually where it goes under the frame rails or the transmission crossmember, not at the collectors.

That is very true Apeiron. Problems arise at the x-member, not the collector so much.
heat seeker, you are running the exact same setup as me. Looks like you have dynomax bullet 4" mufflers on turndowns. That is what I have. Mine is 3" made with all mandrel bends. Looks like yours is too. You can gain a ton of clearance if you dimple your pipes and pull them up a bit. I did and am pretty far off the ground.
I am not lowered, but at the lowest point, my true duals give me about 4.5" of ground clearance.
this is one of many pics on my site. There is a pretty good step by step of how I made the whole thing.

hope this helps. Oh and please read the captions in the pics, they will answer 90% of the questions you might have.

Umm... Just fine. The only closr part is by the slave. I have heat wrapped the pipe and the slave since i took this pic. But here you can see the closest part. There is room all over the place exept there. Not a big problem.

I can get pics of the heat wrapped vertion if you want, but it is not any more insightful than these.

thats fine for a T56 but I dont have that ...I have the 700r4..can it still be done? For some reason Im stuck on long tubes..1 3/4 that is..cause its suppose to sound better and give more power...and since im building a 383..I want all I cant get...
I remember a long time ago seeing some 3 or 4 inch oval pipe..is that stuff still around?

yes oval pipe is still around and doing well. There are more than a few companies now that make it. Google it.
As for using an auto, you have even less to worry about than the T-56 guys like myself. Autos are thinner, you have no slave poking out the side.
You will be fine shoving whatever auto you want in there.

My exhaust pipes were cheap and they worked great. Hedman extensions, straight pipe, and proso spiral flow mufflers with turndowns($140 jegs). $70 was all it cost to have the ends cut and flared at a shop. A buddy welded the pipes together after we measured it all out, it worked out great.
