Big Block headers

Ok im going to bring this back again, if any body has pics of the mods they had to make for the headers to fit would be great. I tried putting them on again and the driver side will not fit right at all. Looks like the brake lines have to be moved, part of the cross member has to be cut, the motor mount on the block needs notched. Im so fed up with this project grrrrrrrrrrr.
Thanks Mike

sounds typical of any header install. I had to notch my factory kmember to fit SBC headers and move brake lines as well. I swapped to solid motor mounts and a tubular kmember and now I have all the room in the world to move around my headers.

Same here. Get a tube K-memeber and stop worrying. I tossed in long tubes for my SBC in about 20minutes, by myself.

Check the Engine Swap forum. There's a BBC sticky there, and has links within it discussing headers.

did that fix the problem with the headers Steve?? Cause there might be a slightly large size engine in there next summer if all goes well for me.

yea the tubular kmember fixed the header issue, the solid motor mounts fixed the motor moving side to side issue....no idea why though

God i hate my car, i bought the solid mounts, out them in and tried to put the headers in. The darn things still dont want to go in. I had to beat some of the oil pan and cut some more of the cross member and it still dont want to fit. Maybe i have the frame mounts on wrong. I have the one that says DL on the driver side and the one that says PR on the passenger side. if thats not it what is causing the problem. im so sick of this problem. I might just go with truck manifolds.

truck manifolds will probably be the wrong angle. just so you know my initial header install before the tubular crossmember took me around 8 hours non-stop and I work faster than most people on cars. You'll regret not finishing up the cutting to get them to work. Just take your time and mock them up then remove some material and repeat until it fits well.

Its just getting so frustrating. I dont want to cut to much of the crossmember so it becomes weak.

Are you using the Hooker BB headers?
I don't recall having to cut muck on the crossmember,I did have to trim on the lower A arm brackets, and pound on the firewall quite a bit.I had stock rubber mounts, didn't have to trim the engine mounts any,but I did have to remove the distributor and valve covers and jack the engine up until the heads were crammed into the firewall.
The good news, you will LOVE the way a 3rd gen feels with a bigblock. The bad news is,if you think the driver's side header is a bitch, just wait until you do the passenger side!I promise,it's worth it in the end, though.I had to sell my car a couple of months ago due to losing my job.I'm back to work now,but it's a very empty feeling to walk into the shop and my baby ain't sitting there, waiting to be thrashed.

Ya im using the hooker headers. When i had the stock mounts in, i got the passenger side in with little pounding to the floor and firewall. The driver side didnt want to go in at all. So i cut the crossmember where the header was hitting and still it wont go in. I cant even get the passenger side to fit now with the solid mounts. I just feel like im doing so much and havent gotten anywhere. It sucks that you had to sell yours, do you have any pics?

Did you get directions with these headers? I did not, but I noticed on hookers website that there is a pdf file with the directions telling you where to trim and cut the body/frame. I did all of it by trial and error, I`ll admit I even had to flatten the collectors down some to clear the frame. it ain`t easy but it`s doable- took me two 12hr days with a hoist, welder, and torch.
