Vortex mufflers

Searched, there have been questions asked but no responses.

I'm getting tired of too loud. Hot Rod magazine recently had a manufacturer's feature of Vortex V-baffle mufflers, in researching I discovered the photo they included in the spot is actually the Vortex Classic muffler. Here's a link to a distributor who seems to have decent prices http://www.hileri.com/?pageid=60311 . Same people that do Cherry Bomb mufflers (IMCO).

I've been hearing the Flows don't flow as well as you would assume. If these mufflers flow as well as they claim, and aren't as annoyingly loud, then I'd consider going with them.

88105's for the '57, and either the same for the Camaro with a 3" 90 degree bend and single 3" pipe, or the 88117 with current pipes. The 88117 costs $38.60 more than a 88105, but then the 90 degree & pipe would cost over $50 from Summit by the time I got them to my door.

I either ask very difficult, or very obscure questions.

I know Cherry Bomb isn't the most respected name around here, but we're not talking your typical glasspack.

Hate to be the guinea pig, but if I have to. . .

Let me know how they work for ya, i need some mufflers to slip fit at the end of my bullets so i can drive it on the street. So power loss really isnt a problem, because when i am ready to race they will come off with a muffler clamp on each one.

I found a pair of 88104 on eBay for $120. They arrived Monday. It'll be a little while before I get them installed, but I'll report the results when I do.

Check the link in the original post. Click on "Cherry Bomb", then "Vortex Series". Or go to www.cherrybomb.com.

The cat-back system on my '83 has the Vortex pipes, and a Flowmaster muffler, both components fit each other perfect.. I was going to use the Vortex mufflers as well, but I went with something that I knew sounded good from previous experiences. AutoZone can get all the mufflers and pipes and accessories you need, that's where I got mine. The Vortex has two models, The Classic and the V-Baffle. Classic is a little more mellow sounding while the V-baffle has a more aggressive tone.

More mellow is what I'm after. I can't imagine it has much if any flow restriction, from the look of it.

A mechanic friend recommended the Cherry Bomb because I told him I didn't want anything terribly loud. I was satisfied enough to run it for several years.

I'd sure like to know how it compares to the typical Flowmaster cross-flow 3" in/dual 2-1/2" out replacement muffler.

i have one cross flow vortex on my 89 formula (no cats), and true duals (w/cats) on my 96 roadmaster. i love them. nice burble at idle, great crack when you rev it up, it's a lil' loud at cruise in the bird, but real mellow at cruise in the wagon.

I'll stay away from the crossflow, then. That's exactly what I'm putting up with now, and don't like it.

What size do you have on the Buick? The ones I got for the '57 are 3" in & out, offset/offset. And these are the Vortex Classic you're talking about? I won't have cats, of course.

they are 2 1/2" in & out, fully welded black case. without cats they'll definitely be loud and raspy, which i like. if you add a small resonator they'll mellow right out though.

I wish I had received these responses before I bought. I hate loud and raspy. Unsophisticated in my book.

Oh, well, we'll see how they do. At least they should flow well.

Champagne tastes, beer budget.
