Just thought I would share some pics of the new 4 inch Mufflex Exhaust for those of you wanting to see its quality. Ignore the wife's Teddy Bears.

Looks nice. Mufflex would not sell me just the parts that I needed so I built my own 4" system. I also made mine from Stainless Steel. Check it out a few threads down under My Exhaust Picture.
Put up some sound clips when you have it on. I opted for the Crossflow Spintech for my car. It will be interesting to hear what your sounds like.
If the 355 is built a 4" system should not be overkill.

Actually it is the equivalent of dual 2 inch exhaust, which everyone would say,"Isn't that a little small??", I would love to hear it when your done.

Just think back to grade school.
Area of a circle = r^2 x pi
4"pipe
A = 2^2 x 3.14
A = 2x2x3.14
A = 12.56 sq in
Dual 2" pipe
A = 1x1x3.14
A = 3.14sq in
A single 4" pipe is the equivelent of 4 x 2" pipes.
Running dual 2 3/4" pipes will almost flow as much as a single 4"; 11.87sq in vs 12.56sq in.
I'm not including the thickness of the metal.

I read a article that said that a single 4 inch will flow better then a dual 2 1/2 but wont flow better then a dual 3 inch

Ohhh thats the system I am looking at. I am going with a 1 3/4 SLP headers, 3 inch y pipe and 4 inch mufflex. I am looking for one used, but might break down and buy one later this year.

A 4" system will support about 600hp. Of coarse that is just naturally aspirated. If it has a blower, turbo or NOS everything can change.

Congrats on the system man. One word of advice though, if you don't have a pipe cutter big enough(or a rec. saw) take it to an exhaust shop. When I put mine up I ended up using different hangers cause the stock ones just don't cut it. Plus you may want to remove a little form the pipe(s) where it comes over the axle housing. By doing it you can make the exhaust sit nice and tight to the car. You can't even tell I have a 4 inch exhaust on mine, that is until you get under there and the sewer tube.
Good luck and have fun with it. Your gonna love the sound!

sweet, now if only i can convince my gf that its ok to keep parts in the house. what ive been telling her is that the parts need to be sent back, so i tape it up but just leave them in the living room.

Hell, you guys shoulda seen my closet before i built the 383...my wife was talking to me like i was crazy, now she complains i work on the car too much, always somthing.
The Mufflex 4" with the single in/out Flowmaster is likely the most aggressive sounding catback made for our cars, period!
And I gained both ET and MPH in identical conditions going from a Hooker 3" catback to a Mufflex 4" on a ~350HP 355ci. The overall sound is worlds better too!
And take your time installing it. It is a VERY TIGHT fit, and must be installed with a lot of attention to detail to get it to fit without rattling or hanging too low.

I know this sounds stupid but my car is going to be street driven tons(why I didnt get a solid cam) but how do I run a cat with this? its not gonna be worth the 12 hp loss if I get cought, and id like to not have to change exhausts everytime i go for inspection
Well I originally bought the exhaust for the engine I had in the car at the time, which put down 360rwhp through the Hooker Aerochamber on a Mustang Dyno. We found another 15HP by unbolting the Hooker rear section, so I began looking for something better. I found a Mufflex Spintech dual out for pennies and bought it. It looked stupid on a Camaro, and sounded very tame. I traded someone online for a Flowmaster rear section straight up. WOW! It sounds great! Very deep, powerful, and authoritive with the old motor. That engine blew up, and I'm now running it on the engine in my sig. Not as aggressive sounding due to a lesser motor, but still unique. If you want loud, this is the exhaust! Louder and cleaner than most dual systems I've heard.
As far as results: The older motor blew up before I got any confirmed results. Current motor: I picked up 12rwhp going from the Hooker to the Mufflex. Track times showed an improvement on average of .15 and a little over 1mph. The engine definately breathed better from 4000rpm and higher. This is on the current engine.

After I installed my 3.5" Mufflex cat back and Meziere electric water pump I picked up 27rwhp. How much was the ewp and how much was the Mufflex I can't tell you. Went from 304rwhp to 331rwhp.

Its nice to see a sizeable gain like that,but how much torque did you lose?High rpm hp is nice but if you use it for a daily driver that sees very little track time is it really worth the loss down low for power up top?
I GAINED torque, everywhere (dyno sampled from 2800rpm) The too large of an exhaust thing is complete BS when talking about a part of the system so far back from the engine. Backpressure being needed is a myth, but lets not turn this thread into another one of those debates... And honestly, if you truly believe that trading low end torque for high rpm horsepower is a bad thing (common mentality around here), then you're doomed to be just as slow as the rest of them. Take a look at who is fast on the street these days... All those motors shine in the high RPM, while low RPM torque is on the soft side. Low RPM torque is for towing, not racing.

In case that was also for me. My experience is the same as Marc 85Z28. I gained torque every where. I would have to check but it was over 20RWTQ.

here is mine. just got the motor running and the 4" mufflex w/ 2210's hooked up. not quite 100% tight though. the system could use some welds, and for sure custom made hangers.
