resolving bracket problem
I just installed a pair of Hedmen hedders on my 88. How did you guys resolve the A/c and alternator bracket problem? Is there a aftermarket bracket that can be purchased

use longer bolts and use spacers to space the bracket out to where it needs to be
the spacers are steel sleeve/pipe
hardware store
or plumbing store
even washers would work

If you use the original manifold bolt and a spacer the same thickness as the manifold, you'll put the bracket right back where it was with the manifolds. Hooker 2055's come with the right spacer.
Not sure about Hedmans, but the bracket typically doesn't fit around the primary tube. Need to cut off the back leg of the bracket to get it to fit. Still plenty of strength and stiffness to get the job done.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm going by the parts store after work today to pick up a couple of spacers/washers. I'll make it work.

I'll probably have to cut away, like you said, the back side of the bracket to make it fit properly on the A/c for sure. I think the alternator side will be fine though.

Yes, the factory put them on for a reason. To prevent excessive vibration from breaking the main bracket. They are needed.

I understand that they are needed but it appears a lot of people dont put them back on im just wondering if they experiance more vibration or if later down the road they will start experiancing more vibrations. I have hedman headers and im not sure how i will do since the primary tubes are so close to the bolt studs.

when i installed my hedmans i never installed the brackets back, at the time dint have the know how and the right hardware to put it back anyways ran it for months before i sold her and never had a problem but i dint get the chance the see if there would be issues down the line ... do it right and put it back, manufactures do not install useless parts ...
