Having personally removed the Cat. myself, I can speak from experience.

It will make it louder

Yes, it should. Just alittle bit louder though. I had a 88 iroc with a flowmaster. Car sounded almost stock with the cat. Pulled the cat and it sounded alot better.

When I took the cat off mine I would have to say it was worth it.

Disconnect the cat-back and remove the insides of the cat. It will still look stock for emissions.

Wouldn't high flow cats be more efficient?

Re: Taking off the cat make it louder

Get electronic cutouts and keep the cat. It's not worth getting fined or going to jail because you want a little bit louder exhaust.

Re: Taking off the cat make it louder

Versus a high flow cat, going without a cat is going to do very little for performance and probably be illegal. If you want louder, I'd say try some race mufflers, switch to a different muffler brand or get cutouts. The difference between cat and no cat will not be that much, most of the volume comes from muffler design.

Will be louder cuz my 87 formula doesn't have a cat. Only thing is that u will smell more fumes and I get compliments on it all da time.

Re: Taking off the cat make it louder

I've got the magnaflow 3" in/3" out cat. Didn't notice a difference between full exhaust and open headers for the week before I got it put on.

Well, hehe, the sound of course, but not performance. Not to say a dyno or timeslip wouldn't have shown a difference, but no butt dyno difference.

I say leave the cat and get the dynomax race bullet muffler and the muffler is only $42 on Jegs.com
