Oiling Manifold Bolts

I have a header job in the near future and I know I'm going to want to hit those manifold bolts with some penetrating oil. My question is will it do any good to use the oil while I'm still driving the car? For example hit them with oil at night, let em soak all night, then drive the car the next day for a week or so before the job? Or will I be wasting my time doing anything other than letting the bolts soak without warming the engine? Its a daily driver so its hard to just let the car sit without either driving it or at least working on it.

Re: Oiling Manifold Bolts

no it wont do anything at all unless you were able to spray the threads of the bolts directly

otherwise its pointless

Re: Oiling Manifold Bolts

Some penetrating oils claim they actually "penetrate". Whether that's true or not *shrug*. Hell yeah spray em up. Can't hurt any. The more the merrier. Penetrating oil isn't THAT expensive and if it does work its WAY better than dealing with broken bolts. I know when I took the manifolds off my 305 I didn't use any penetrating oil and they all came out no problem. But I think I just got lucky Good luck

Get ahold of some Kroil, probably the best stuff I've used so far.

Re: Oiling Manifold Bolts

I know it will help, I'm just curious if I will burn off all the oil when I drive the car because I cant let the car sit for a week just so I can soak the bolts.

Oh well I guess the only thing I can do is spray em and hope for the best!

I've never had to let it set for a week for the stuff to work. You shouldn't have too much of a problem since you're here in CA.
