flowmasters are they worth installing

Have a 91 rs with built 383 and want to run true duals and dump them before rear axle, I like the way flowmasters sound but do they really perform?
Was checking out moroso spiral flow and dynomax bullets. Which would be my best bang for the buck and which would sound the best/perform? Any suggestions would help........thanks Nick.

Re: flowmasters are they worth installing

If you want maximum performance, you want a straight through design like the bullets. Flowmaster does offer one chamered mufflers though.

Re: flowmasters are they worth installing

Straight through mufflers is the best for performance...although you may find the noise unbearable. I would recomment the Flowmasters. They sound great when you put your foot down.............

Re: flowmasters are they worth installing

I kind of do want it to be loud and sound badass, the only thing i am worried about is if i install bullets with packing, I don't want a raspy sound like that peice of crapp SLP loadmouth that everybody is running, it reminds me of a honda fart tube!!! Just want something that sounds loud and aggressive.

I'm interested in the glasspack style too, my neighbor has them on his Mercury accross the street, and his 305 is a MILLION times nicer sounding than my 350...Who makes good ones?

Re: flowmasters are they worth installing

Asking what brand is better is really a loaded question around here... borderline dangerous actually.

I prefer Hooker myself... its built beefy, so it holds up well, and it also doesn't make it sound 'cheap' like alot of system out there. Has a nice growl under normal driving conditions, sounds REALLY gnarly at WOT, and just has a nice rumble at idle.

I have the '83-85 HO Hooker system on my Z28, and it made no difference at the track between through the pipes, or with the cutout open. None at all.

My cousin also runs a pair of Hooker mufflers (2x 2.5" in and out) on his 425hp 390ci Ford big block, and it makes no difference if he runs open headers or through the pipes.

IMO, Hookers are the best mufflers out there.

Re: flowmasters are they worth installing

When i get exhaust should run it to the rear axle and dump it or should i run it all the way to the rear of the car? It will be true duals.

kinda tells you something about them then doesnt it?? not only do they have that "you dont wanna mess with me" sound, but they have a sweet looking design and are built very strong. I have two 40 series mufflers that hang low and I have hit the curb at the end of my driveway several times and they have never gotten a dent or anything on them. by far the best mufflers around in my opinion...

everybody i know has flows pretty much
my friends f150 has em and they lasted 8 months before they rusted out
another friends jeep had on that hung a little to low that got smashed on a rock

flows are not aluminzed, and, they arent really the strongest either depending on case, ive actually RAN my force muffer over and my buddy behind me ran it over as well and its still sittikng on my car $35>$80

a majoirity of the world also think that TB spacers and tornados are good for horsepower and gas milage

Flowmasters ARE aluminized, or you can get them in stainless. Also I think thats why flowmaster has come out with the diamond plate style muffler cases for off roading purposes, but I will agree with you that as far as ANY muffler taking a blow by a rock, it will smash it. And I would think your F150 friend must have gotten a used one or an old one, but I would think flowmaster wouldn't have the popularity they do if all of their mufflers only lasted 8 months before rusting out, I would guess maybe the condensation that usually leaks out the tailpipe is somehow getting cought in the muffler, sitting in there and rusted it out. I have had mine for 9 months now that I bought USED and not a single sign of rust...
