Re: Exhaust Leak?????

if there was an exhaust leak you would hear it, it would be a ticking noise like you have a bent pushrod. good luck

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

Get you a piece of garden hose or something and hold it to your ear and move around the exhaust manifolds and see if you can pinpoint the location and tighten it up.Do you here it ticking now?If not I wouldnt worry too much about it.I`ve heard exhaust leaks make people think they swipped a lobe on a cam or blown up there engine. When I took the manifolds off my 305 the gaskets were gone but I had no exhaust leak sounds. If you cant tighten it up to make it go away go ahead and throw a good set of headers on and be done with it.Then you`ll get to play with more exhaust leaks.

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

To what degree is the leak? The rubber hose on my A.I.R. tubes, on the exhaust manifold on my GTA, is completely of, and has been for a while now. There has been no difference in performance, or ill effects of it being gone. And you can only hear it when the hood is open, as a puff-puff-puff sound.

I'm not suggesting you ignore it, just saying it could be a gasket, a hose, or tubing that needs rewelding. I've just been too lazy to fix mine!

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

if you think its a leak in the pipes i would just take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld it up believe me working under the car on a lift if much easier than jack stands. they should only charge about 5 bucks or so to tack a hole up or whatever needs to be done.

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

Well I am pretty sure my camaro has an exhaust leak. It does have a ticking noise, it gets louder when I rev the engine up into higher RPM's and is even noticable when its only idling.

Any ideas of what it could be beyond the obvious that it is an exhaust leak? and how hard it would be to fix?

Depends if it is a simple 5 min spot weld, or a gasket blown out, and where the gasket is. If it is a manifold/header gasket, you are looking at a hour or two, depending on which side, how much stuff is in the way, and how stusk the bolts are. If it is a gasket, soak your bolts for a few days before trying it. Otherwise, you might snap a bolt head off, then you have the fun of removing the headless bolt.

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

In my experience, limited as it is,I`ve had stock f-bodys with several exhaust leaks.Only once have I had a tick from a loose rocker arm. From what I understand the stock roller engines should need little to no adjustment during there life. Now I`m no mechanic this is just what I`ve been told by my dad and mechanics over the years since I`ve owned f-body`s,so take that for what its worth and correct me if I`m wrong. My experience with aftermarket roller rockers is a completly different thing. They seem to need adjustment much more freqently.I think your problem is more than likely an exhaust leak, and nothing to fraek out about but I know how those little ticks can drive me The blah blah seems like exhaust leak as long as your sure it`s not a knock knock.

Re: Exhaust Leak?????

I have tore under the hood and fixed my problem.

I had blown gasket by the manifold, took me about hour and half to replace and now the noise is gone. Had small leak at the rear of the exhaust aswell but that took like 5 minutes to patch.

thanks for info guys.
