I get a weird noise out the tail pipes of my 84 z-28..... itsalways 1 or 2 seconds after i shut off the car. it sounds almost like a backfire or back pressure being released . my timing is set. also could this be because of my giaint exhaust leaks

yes it could very well be due to exhaust leaks if they are bad enough and especially if the leaks are more towards the front of the exhaust system, fresh air combining with heat and raw unburnt fuel fumes can detonate inside of or outside of the pipes, it happens, not a rare occurance either

what carb you running

an aftermarket one, or a E4ME ?

or a non E4ME Q jet ?

its a cc quadrajet and yeah my manifolds wont bolt on all the way to my exhaust collector because of my new oil pan, but its ok because im saving up for a pair of headers....
