No...but it will be if you don't fix your over rich problem.

A cat converter is an afterburner, if it gets raw fuel in it, it trys to burn it up. Hense the extra heat.

Re: my cataylic coverter turned bright red

yes unburnt fuel from those cylinders

as far as replacing it or not well that depends

is it still flowing through and not a restriction?

it may have burnt it up so that it is not very effective, if at all

does the car idle and run ok still ? still same power as before this happened ?

exhaust out the end still feel ok ?

hard to tell for sure though

Hmm, Ive never seen a Convertor turn bright red.. I'm sure the convertor is fine.. Take the Intermediate Pipe off and look inside.. when its cool...

Re: my cataylic coverter turned bright red

Had that happen to me in a 4 banger Cavalier. It had 2 coil packs, each feed spark to 2 cylinders each. One of those packs dies, car was dumping 2 cylinders worth of fuel straight into the cat.

Replaced the coil pack and drove it for 3 more years....never caused a problem.
