Help! Custom single 4" exhaust over axle.
Hey all, I am just about to the axle with my custom 4" exhaust set up. I completed the y pipe, dual 3" to single 4". How in the world did some of you guys get your 4" pipe over the axle? Do I have to bend my heat sheilds? Should the car be loaded on the suspension? (Thats how I have it now) I have 3 mandrel bent 90's and a 45 angle to work with and a bunch of 4" pipe left over. I want my dynomax muffler in the stock location as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most of it is. I still need to get pics. Do you have any advice for getting it over the axle without rubbing or vibration?

Re: Help! Custom single 4" exhaust over axle.
i dont have personal experience with it. Are you having trouble physically fitting it in there? or....? 4" is frikin huge. Would help to know which route your taking to go from front to back.
Id put a couple of heat sheilds in if not already done, bending them or whatever, shouldnt be a prob. They exhaust should be routed away from the "pumpkin" part of the axle to get the most clearance, and to avoid vibration, just put a couple extra hangers in there.
Id like to see your y-pipe, i just spent $350 on a custom 3" y-pipe to a 3.5" collecter. Its mandrel bent, but the guy worked some magic, cuz its in the stock y-pipe location. Its not possible to do mandrel and still have good ground clearance, so he had to "pinch" in one spot, but its not perpendicular to flow, so its a good job.

I had to bend and beat the heat sheilds into submission. Also I had to ditch the one that is covering the fuel tank. Then I used heat material on the fuel tank to keep the heat away.

It's tight. My Mufflex 4" system rests on the upper heat shields and I don't run the upper panhard rod.

I am about 1/2 way there. I put Hooker 2210's S/C's on my car with a Mufflex 4' y pipe. They sell the rest of the mufflex 4' exhaust all the way back to include a spintech muffler for $548.62 plus Shipping & Handling. My friend has the same system part no# 82402CS which he said fit on his car like a glove.

Hey zacharyhorn,
I built my own exhaust just like what you want to do.
It is really tight but if you take your time it will fit. I have all my factory heat sheilds and the upper panhard rod. I used stainless steel 45 degree bends and a 90 degree bend as well as some straight tubing. One of the key elements is what radius 45 & 90 degree bends you purchased. I can't remember what I used but it fit like a glove.
Here is the link to my thread and I have lots of pictures of it being built.

If you have any questions send me a PM.

Thanks a lot Brett, Phenomenal job on the exhaust. I will try to get pics up of mine as soon as I can. I hope I can get over the axle without too much trouble. I will be working on it friday, we'll see how it goes.

I have a mufflex 4" too, I have my panhard bar brace, unmodified and I fit over the axle just fine. Not too sure why anyone needed to move theirs. My setup is greatly modified over the stock muffex package though. But the area in question in just about the same exact way that it came from mufflex. I too run 2210s.

My Mufflex setup is modified too but over the axle's it's untouched and fits perfectly, with the pan-hard bar there. I will have to say though that it is a tight bend if I remember correctly.

Re: Help! Custom single 4" exhaust over axle.
Well,
I've been putting a lot of work into this the last week or so and it's just about finished. I just need one more mandrel 90 and 3 band clamps and 2 more welds. I should have it done by this weekend all things considered. I might be able to drive my combo now for the first time in two years! It's been sitting way too long. I will try to get pics up as soon as I get it finished.
