are long tubes worth it ???
Is it worth the $1050.00 for the longtubes and y-pipe or should I stick with the edelbrock shortys and y-pipe? How much of a gain will I see from lt's I have a fully built 383 8-1 compression running 15-20lbs of boost procharger d1sc.
oh yea what brands of long tubes do you guys recommend I was looking at the hawks stainless steel ones.
thanks John

My hookers fit perfectly no hammering or clearancing ANYTHING
Better than stock ground clearance
I have hedmans ready for the new GTA
$1k for headers is stupid unless you need customs built
There are ALOT cheaper ones out there that work just as good

From the ones I have see I'm not a fan of the Edelbrock shorty's. The question is a good one. What power is to be gained going from shortys to long tubes? I don't know the answer. I would assume it will depend on the engine combination.

Re: are long tubes worth it ???
you might need the 1-3/4" primary headers.. with boost, its like running high compression which will benefit the top end more.. the 1-5/8 primaries may choke your motor.. also, get something with ceramic coating

Re: are long tubes worth it ???
youll be losing some boost because you are taking more resriction out of the exhaust with headers of any kind

maybe I will just stick with my edelbrock tes headers and y-pipe sand blast them and get them jet hot coated

Re: are long tubes worth it ???
i'm runnin the 1-3/4 primaries on my 10.6:1, 385.. runnin 11.8's.. somewhere around 400rwhp.. i think the 1-3/4's would be perfect for your motor.. heck, if you put down over 600 at the wheels, you could be in need of even bigger primaries.. not tryin to make you spend money but the shorties will hinder performance on a blown motor..

Well, i must say...with that kind of boost, you would notice a difference.

Re: are long tubes worth it ???
in your case, i would without a doubt go with the hooker longtubes. from a performance aspect, they are the only mass-produced header for your car that makes sense.
however, i would not buy their overpriced Ypipe. swap crossmembers to a "double hump" style one that allows the exhaust pipes to pass thru, then have a local shop fab up a Ypipe.
if cost is not a large issue, this is a much better solution. this is similar to what i have done to my car
