Question about the 80 series

I am looking at buying the flowmaster 80 series muffler but the pipes on my car are only 2 inch, and the inlet/outlets on the muffler are 2.5. I know i can simply just use those adapters for that .5 inch difference but will it affect the sound coming through mostly 2 inch pipes, then out my 3 inch hooker tips? thanks guys

Re: Question about the 80 series

the sound will be dampened some, my buddies flowmaster 305 with stock pipes sounds alright. i wouldn't be worried about it at this point.

Re: Question about the 80 series

so u think it will be alright even tho most of the pipes will be 2 inch? and also is it a big deal that my RS has 150,000 miles on it, will it also affect the sound. ( i know this is a noob question) but i need to know. thanks again

Re: Question about the 80 series

it'll be alright, but if you have plans in the future for headers or cam or even a bigger motor you'll kick yourself in the teeth for not going with an entire 3" catback first time around.

ask me why i know this.

and yes, my LG4 had that many miles with nothing but an open element and a flowmaster, and it sounded pretty good. tons more bark then bite for sure.

Re: Question about the 80 series

Just get a flowmaster catback online. Summit has them for like $350-$400 with cheep shipping. After you get the muffler, the tips, the adapters, hangers, and welding done, it will be probably cheaper to go with a cat-back. Plus it will flow better.

What motor do you have the 305 TBI or TPI?

Re: Question about the 80 series

to be honest i dont know what motor it has. plus i dont feel like spending 350 or more on my car right now. im 17 and my parents dont understand. so thats why i just wanna go with the muffler, not to mention i just bought hooker tips for like 75 bucks and theyre worthless if i get a whole new catback

I have the 40 series in my 86 tbi and it sounds okay. Not to loud and not too low.

Re: Question about the 80 series

Last time I checked the 40 series did not come in a crossflow configuration. I might be wrong tho. My buddy with the 98SS swears he has a 40 series, but its welded up like a crossflow 80 series.

Re: Question about the 80 series

I have an 80 series that was just welding up to the stock pipes. It sounds great, but listen to what someone else said above about kicking yourself in the pants later for not going with the entire 3" catback. You'll find my buying a whole new system soon because 3" is really where its at.

Re: Question about the 80 series

If you go to the actuall flowmaster web site, they have a chart with all the series mufflers and tells you sound differences, and they also have sound clips for them all. so you can actually hear them, its pretty cool.
