Need your thoughts on my exhaust ideas

I just read the post about back pressure. Dang, thats a lot of info. most of which is over my head.

I have a 91 Camaro RS it had the 305 V8 in it. I just finished the LT1 swap and its running really nice. Here is my question. I'm using the stock exhaust from the 305 currently, with the LT1 manifolds. Here are my thoughts

Hooker headers, 1 5/8" primaries into a 3" collector. Dump that into a 3" Y pipe. That into a 3" Cat. I am open to suggestions on what kind of cat to get. Meow... Ok I'm done meowing now.

From the Cat 3" pipe back to a Flowmaster Series 80 cross flow muffler 3" inlet and 3" dual outlets out the back of the car. Is this a decent setup? I really want a nice sound, and don't want to lose power because of a bad exhaust design.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Re: Need your thoughts on my exhaust ideas

I spent about 12 hours custom building mine, I didn't want to use on of those crappy restrictive y-pipes, it's hard to explain what I did, but it sounds like no other 3rd gen out there, and I also used 1, 3 inch 40 series muffler in the back with a 3 inch turndown, and got it up as tight as I could so you can't see any of it. (all mandrel bent exhaust pipes)

But if you want an 80 series I have the one I took off of mine complete with Flowmaster stainless tips.

Re: Need your thoughts on my exhaust ideas

well doesnt make much sense to have a 3 inch ypipe tubes dumping into a single 3 inch tube to the cat and run that back... seems alittle tight to me.

depends on your engine build but a single 3 inch should be fine for most builds and using 2.5" ypipe tubes into a 3inch single outlet like most aftermarket exhaust kits are setup should be fine. thats what i got on my L98.

I ran hooker shorties and their 2.5" inch y pipe into 3inch single 80 series Flowmaster catback and ran strong. sounded ok but i converter to a chambered tube and ran 3inch all the way back and it sounds tons better but as far as performance went, i dont think i really gained anything

I'm glad we don't have emission laws in Iowa, I hate cats.
