Exhaust Clips Needed

Well, the time to redo the exhaust has come. Long story I wont get into.
I have a set of SLP 30005C coated shorty headers and the matching y-pipe. It merges to 3". I got the 3" SLP 45* slip fit and ave a 3" test pipe.
I have just picked up new OEM hangars to replace the ones that rust by exhaust shops done in the past.
I also just got Dynomax smooth bent 2.5" Left (43244) and Right (43243) Tailpipes from Summit.
I plan on getting the 3" Over-Axle (43248) and 3" Intermediate (44063) pipes as soon as funds are availible.
I also plan on getting the Flowmaster 3" to 3" Ball-Flange to connect the test pipe and int pipe. That way its still servicable and leak proof.
I currently have a decent low-mile Flowmaster crossflow 80 series. Its the 2.5" inlet one and I need a 3" inlet muffler.
Option one is to have an exhaust shop weld on a 3" inlet pipe section after cutting off the 2.5" inlet and enlarging the hole. I think the 42583 I have and the 43083 muffs are the same except the inlet size.
But I was optioning for maybe a change in the sound. The Flow is OK but has that popping sound when its revved. I hate it. There is a 53083 larger case 80 series Flow, but I fear its got the same characteristics.
Options I found are :
SLP #10572 quiet
Spintech # 343SC
Edel SDT # 55763
Magnaflow # 12267 satin and 14267 polished
Flows #43083 15" or #53083 17" case
Dynomax #17227 welded ultraflo
Anyone have other options or input?

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

If you need clips just look up and there is a big *** sticky with everything you need, plus you never said if you wanted a loud or quiet exhaust so its kinda hrd to help you choose i like loud but hate drone so i was thinking of getting a super quiet high flow muffler and then putting in a electric exhaust cut out then i would get the best of both worlds=)

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

OK, Ill look for it.
I have a healthy cam, and its a weekender car, so loud without being abnoxious. No louder than what I have now, but also not pu$$y quitet. I want to be heard and seen but not to the point where its annoying. I like a thunderous rumble.
I was also thinking about a cutout. After the SLP 45* slip-sit cat adapter, I have about 19-21" where the test pipe is. As you know the cat/tp are angled back to the center. So I was thinking putting the cutout there and the outlet of it would be shooting backwards. The cutout is a 3" 3-bolt flat flange (the one Im looking at). I would get a pipe that has a 90* or 45* angle and the same 3" 3-bolt flange. That way it shoots the exhaust out the side of the car when its in use and then Id just cap it when its not. Or also get the electric race ready. Ive got to rebuild the 3" test pipe anyways.
Any more input.
Any more crossflow mufflers I dont have on the list?
GMMG-outta the question, Borla-no thanks, Corsa-yes but too pricey, SLP TOTL-cool but I like the stock dual look myself, NE MOre?

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

describe the popping sound. is it when its revved and you let the rpms come down and its popping/crackling on decel? mine kinda did that when i had a cat. i've heard that exhaust on a 408 stroker and it sounded pretty good and didnt really pop/crackle at all.

i have a chambered tube now similar to like a gmmg and its loud but sounds good. not sure you'll want that but sound clips are in my sig.

I havent really heard a spintech before but that be my next guess for a crossflow muffler that retains dual outlets.

else you'll need to get a SLP loudmouth style rear over the axle section to retain dual outlets like stock, much like what i have now (mines custom fabbed) and then run a muffler of some sort in the intermediate pipe area. most thin box mufflers will fit and clear the ground well. Also look into dynomax ultraflo round mufflers. they will make good sound and arent too expensive. plus they flow great

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

I want to keep the stock design. So I am OK with the crossflow mufflers.

The GMMG is too pricey and I personally dont like the sound that much. IMO what I got is more pleasing than that setup.

I liked the orig TOTL SLP sound but not the style. The stock outlet style SLP but its hard to find. The 'quiet' mufflers are on clearance but they are the 4th gen modles. Not that that makes a difference but Im not sold on it. The loudmouth isnt what Im looking for either.

I had a Dynomax ST on the stock 305 way nback when. I loved the tone but the loudness was lacking. The SuperTurbo is only availible in a 2.5 in and out configuration. I need a 3" in and dual 2.5 outs. Im not sure yet on the UltraFlow #17227 since I have yet to find a decent clip of it.

I heard a couple Hooker AeroChamer clips. Sounded aggressive and controlled. Thats a possibility but I need just the muff, not the entire kit.

I dont really care for the Magnaflow. Cant put a finger on it, but there just something I dont like of the ones Ive heard.

Still looking for Edelbrock clips and better Hooker clips.

My Flowmaster now is the #42583. Its a 2.5" in and dual 2.5" out. If you look at the inlet it flares up in size. I was told this muffler is the same as the #43083. That one is the same except a 3" inlet. Im sure an exhaust shop cam make the nessesary fix on that. Theres also the #53083 that has a 17" long case instead f the 15" the other 2 have. Im guessing its for a different car??

The popping may be another issue. But yes, its on the deceleration when you rev it above a certain RPM and worse cold. Currently I have the 1 3/4" SLP shortys and the matching y-pipe. The y-pipe is 2.25" to 3" and goes to a 3" 45* SLP cat adapter. Then I have NO CAT but a 3" test pipe. The stock 2.5" flange was welded to that so I could retain the rest of the exhaust I already had. This was temporary back when I did the 350 swap and the headers I just mentioned. The I-pipe is 2.5" and the last of the orig Dynomax kit I bought for the 305 way back when.IDK if necking it down in size there makes that type of noise? Other than a reduced HP effect, I didnt think it was going to hurt it.
I have a clip but not of the popping. Tranny is out right now, so that clip will have to wait.
THX for the help and replies =)

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

I have edelbrock headers and with a 2 1/2 y-pipe with a 3inch aero chamber with the dual tips and it has a deep tone but not as deep as the magnaflow and is kinda quite until you rev past 3500 then it f"ing screams but yet it wont pop and crackle plus it has zero drone

Re: Exhaust Clips Needed

Here is what it sounds like now. Sorry, I was just trying out taking the clip and didnt get too into it. So its not a very great clip and no good revs.
