2460-1HKR Hooker Headers Are they Good?
As the thread states are the 2460-1HKR Hooker Headers good headers?
By the way I don't have the AIR pump or a cat.

Re: 2460-1HKR Hooker Headers Are they Good?
I plan on putting these headers on my camaro with the 2.5 inch to 3 inch Y-pipe that is already on my car. I will be keeping what is in place of my cat. Its a large crimped piece of exhaust pipe that is welded to the rest of my exhaust except the headers which are attached by flanges. The rest of my exhaust is 3 inch.
so basicly I am just replacing the stock exhaust manifold on my car.
If this is not a good setup with these headers let me know what is.

You need the HOK-2055HKR. From summit. Here is a link.
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
These are some of the best shorties you can get for the price. They come with airtubes, so you can keep your emissions. They also have a real 3" y-pipe where other brands have 2.25" or 2.5".
I forget the part #, but there is a catalytic convertor that will slip right onto the hooker y-pipe, and is the right length for any 3" flowmaster or hooker catback to bolt to.

Re: 2460-1HKR Hooker Headers Are they Good?
I don't have the emission suff on my car. The original owner swapped engines to a 1974 350 and put the 86 tpi setup on it. So no air pump. It has the stock 74 maniolds on it with a hole drilled in for my o2 sensor. I don't have a cat either and I am not paying the money for one when my whole exhaust except the manifolds are welded as one piece. I don't need a y-pipe either. The one that is on my car is fine. It is a 3" Y-pipe.
If I was going to put in an air pump then I would have to redo the serpintine belt routing on my car too.
is the only difference between the 2055s and 2460s that they are 50 state legal? Because my car is far from emission legal and perhaps street legal too because my air bag was removed and I have an aftermarket steering wheel. Plus I don't even know if shaved door handles are street legal either. But since I live in michigan and they replealed the emission testing and maintenence law in 2001. So michigan has no state emission laws at all.
I found the 20460s at autozone for $367
Forgot to mention that I won't have to pay to get my exhaust welded. I work at a shop and I can do it for FREE

How much of a difference in thickness is 16 guage to 18 guage?

18 is 2ga. thinner than 16.
Yeah, the ones you were looking at are ceramic coated. And a little thicker. So they are basically nicer 2055's without the airtubes.
But you will still need a y-pipe. Every header company makes it so that only their own headers will fit their own y-pipe. So whatever y-pipe you have now going to your stock maniflods wont line up with the hookers. They dump out in different places.
I found a hooker y-pipe "HOK-16767HKR " on summit, however I have no idea if it is the one for your shorty headers. Just my best guess. Also, it looks like it would delete the cat nicely for you.

I have the ceramic coated 2460's too and love them.I just don't know why some folks think the 2055's are so much more superior though?

Re: 2460-1HKR Hooker Headers Are they Good?
It is the one but it is only a 2.5 inch diameter outlet. The custom Y-pipe that is on my car does not fit directly with my stock 74 manifolds. There are spacers on them. So could I find spacers for the 2460-1HKR headers too?
I alsoknow that other people on this subject think that because the 2460-1HKR is 16 guage the inner diameter is smaller than the 2055s. It is smaller but only by 0.012 inches. 18 guage is 0.0476 inches thick and 16 guage is 0.0598 inches thick. But if all else fails I could weld the headers on. I don't really wont to because then my whole exhaust is one piece. Everyone else says the 2055s are better because they are emission legal but since I have no Cat or air pump its not a problem. Also its because of the y-pipe that comes with it. its got a 3 inch outlet diameter. Other than that I don't see the big deal about them since I have acess to custom fabcrication since I convenently work at a shop.

I sure wouldn't go that far. Primary tube measurement is OD, so a thicker gage means smaller ID. Small difference, perhaps, but still a difference. The collector is completely different from 2055HKR's, so there really isn't any grounds for comparison except they are both made by Hooker for 3rd gens.
It's made for the LO3, meaning 2-1/2". If you already have 2-1/2" to 3", you're better off (assuming any hint at mandrel bending). If your y-pipe isn't mandrel bent, then get the 16767HKR, cut off the "Y", and get a Flowmaster 2-1/2" o 3" "Y". Now you've just spent as much as 2055HKR's.
If you get equipment and materials for free, knock yourself out with the 2460HKR's.

Re: 2460-1HKR Hooker Headers Are they Good?
well I didnt realize that he had a shop and custom exhaust ability. If thats true, he could just about get any header for the 3rd gen to work.
However, I would not recommend welding the headers to your exhaust system. That sounds like trouble down the road if they ever give you problems and you need to take them out.
