Powerstick dilemma
Alright I decided to get rid of the idea of a traditional catback and go with the powerstick from chambered exhaust inc.. i would go with the 25" stick but im not sure about the diameter because my pipe is 2' 3/4" while they only offer 2.5" and 3". do you guys think the exhaust shop could make up the difference in welding or what? need some input b/c i'd like to order it today and have on next weekend.

Re: Powerstick dilemma
Where did you get a 2 3/4" exhaust lol?? I guess it must be a custom job because that is a size the exhaust shops around here dont even have!!
Also, I would order a 3" tube because a 2.5" one would be a bottleneck in your 2.75" exhaust (especially since the inside of the powersticks arent smoothe). The exhaust shop should be able to get it to work. Either they will expand some pipe, or just fill the 1/8" with weld. I have seen them do both - most custom exhaust guys are good at building up weld to fill gaps because all the aftermarket pieces people bring them that aren't the right size. I have seen them adapt 2.5" to 3" by welding lol. Really sloppy goober welds but it didnt leak or move.

Re: Powerstick dilemma
L98's had 2 3/4 inch exhaust. if you go powerstick on stock tubing, just run the 3inch and have the shop open up the current tubing or pie cut the powerstick and neck it down.
i like to see more powersticks used here, they sound good and make good power

Re: Powerstick dilemma
its a custom exhaust. from the manifolds it goes... y-pipe, madrel bent, cutout, cat, more mandrel bent, then a custom y-pipe for the duals out the back. and orr, ur clip on the catback thread of the powerstick made me decide to go with the powerstick, and you said there is a noticeable increase in power?.well thanks for your help guys im going to order the 25 inch by 3 inch powerstick and once i got it all on there i will hopefully post a vid for you guys, but i only have a digital camera to make the clip so i dunno how thats gonna turn out

Re: Powerstick dilemma
yeah, any exhaust is a good increase over stock muffler. my car really opened up sound wise without the cat tho. i have the 20inch body stick. the 25 will probly be a tad quieter.

Re: Powerstick dilemma
well i dont have a muffler to begin with. this custom exhaust basically deleted the muffler entirely but its really loud and my dad wont let me park it in the driveway until i get something that isnt as loud. but do u think i should go 20" instead? urs has a nice deep sound to it, nvm i just checked the site and i would have to go w/ a medium stick, i cant go 20 b/c that only comes in a 2.25" inlet

Re: Powerstick dilemma
ok thanks for the tips, and actually i need more insight on what to do w/ the tailpipes. it has the dual tips on each side and they are rusting so i was thinking about new tips as well. i dont know if i want to stick w/ the dual dual look or got w/ a big 3.5" single slash on both sides

Re: Powerstick dilemma
Yeah the medium is what i have, 20 inch body, 25inch overall length, 3inchs.
you mounting the power stick in the I pipe section behind where the cat used to be? Then it goes over the axle and splits into two and has the dual exits?
i am running the powerstick just like that. then i have it splitting over the axle into dual outlets, with 3.5inch tips. they look good. i had 3inch tips wiht the flowmaster and didnt like them, they were too small

Re: Powerstick dilemma
yaya i thought u meant the 20inch total length, im getting the same thing then i guess. and what do you reccomend for tips b/c i want a 3.5 exit but i dont know what brand and whatever else, the shop would have to cut off the old tips and put the new ones on but i dont know if they would have enough pipe then to make it look good. thanks though for the "tips"

Re: Powerstick dilemma
are you really still running stock manifolds? If you're looking for a power gain from exhaust thats the place you should start..

Re: Powerstick dilemma
gmmg is kinda similar but uses two 2.5inch pipes. I think they use stainless works chambered tubes. Sweet thunder also makes chambered tubes
I think classic chambered is the only one with TRUE 3inch pipes.
There is no kit but you can install it in the intermediate pipe area and then run custom pipes out the back to retain stock tips.
else buy a SLP loudmouth and replace their resonator with the chambered tube. Get the hanging brackets relocated for thirdgens and your set. you can find used loudmouths for like 200 bucks, plus 60 for the muffler, thats a catback for under 300, not a bad deal.

Re: Powerstick dilemma
Do you think a medium powerstick would fit in the stock location dumped? It seems like a short powerstick has the same length as the 80 series.

Re: Powerstick dilemma
yeah no doubt... i was thinking of running mine under there. the 80 series and medium stick are close to same length. you can easily dump the powerstick in stock location or just run a single exit tip out the drivers side rear.
i wanted dual tips, like the 80 series dual outlet muffler, so i ran it in the I pipe and split the exhaust into 2 over the axle like the SLP loudmouth

Re: Powerstick dilemma
i can double check for you...i still have my powerstick and flowmaster 80 series laying around
Flowmaster case is 17 inch, and overall length from inlet to exit is 23inch.
medium stick is 20 inch body and 25 inch overall length and that can be trimmed easily.
so it will work
you can do it!

Re: Powerstick dilemma
Also, maybe put a small power-stick where the cat is now??? and then a cat-back?

Re: Powerstick dilemma
im running hedmen longtube headers to 3 inch cats to a medium 3 inch powerstick on each side of my true dual side exit exhaust and love them, the car went from 6.9 stock, to 6.1 0-60 with just that custom exhaust me and my dad (mostly my dad) welded up. best mod we've done so far. i highly recommend the powersticks for the power, sound, and ground clearance, also cant beat that price.

the clearance is decent, i dont scrape on driveways as long as i take them slow, and i just have to go slow over speedbumps.
