New exhaust thoughts

Im wanting to get a new exhaust and was seeing what everyone thought about the setup I want to go with. Right now the car is bone stock, L98 with 64000 miles. The headers I want to get are the Edelbrock TES Tubulars. I want to keep the air system to keep the car as original as possible.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

The exhaust I want is the GMMG Chambered

http://gmmginc.net/Exhaust/orderpage.php

Im going to delete the cat (Im in florida so no inspections)
Im mainly just going for a sweet sound and a nice gain in power. Nothing huge.
If anyone has thoughts/opinions/criticism leave it.

Re: New exhaust thoughts

Looks good. For whatever reason, this board seems to favor the Hooker 2055's over the TES. However, they look good in that picture. I didnt realize the headers were ceramic coated for almost the same price as the 2055's painted.

As for the GMGG exhaust, that seems to be a real favorite. I have heard clips of it and it looks and sounds sick. I think you would be happy with it, as long as price is no object.

For deleting your cat, i recall there was someone on ebay selling 3" test pipes that are direct fit. They are a little pricey though, but would allow you to keep a completely bolt-on exhaust. Another option is to get a convertor and hollow it out with a broomstick. That makes it less complicated with the a.i.r system ect.

Good Luck!

Re: New exhaust thoughts

If you are deleting the cat you might as well delete the air system, they work hand in hand. Wouldnt make sense to keep one and not the other.

Re: New exhaust thoughts

If you're not going to run a cat, why do you want headers with AIR tubes? The AIR tubes that come off the exhaust manifolds run to the catalytic converter. If you're deleting the cat. there's no reason to have headers with the AIR tubes. Or the entire AIR system for that matter.

edit: Frozer!!!, you beat me to it! Guess I took too long to type that response.

Re: New exhaust thoughts

I want to keep the air system so the enging still has the somewhat stock look and i really dont want to take the time to remove it all. I was just actually going to tap the line into the I-pipe where the cat would be.

Thats really the way to go (on a street car) b/c in time, yor're gonna have emmmisions regulations of some type in every state. Up here in NC, it varies by county, but on pre '96 cars the inspector is "supposed" to check under the hood and make sure all the emmisions equipment is intact (they hardly ever do though) but they dont have to put a sniffer in the tailpipe. If you took everything off and made it look like the motor in a '69 Nova, you might have trouble getting it inspected in a few years.

It's eazy to get around the horsepower sucking emmisions with things like gutted cats, pinched hoses, and a cut out piece of a beer can under the EGR valve. That way you still get a new sticker on your windsheild, and get to keep that tire scorching power.

For what its worth.

Re: New exhaust thoughts

The reason people choose the 2055's over the edelbrocks is because the 2055's come with a 3" outlet y-pipe vs the edelbrocks 2.5"...are you planning on running a 2.5" system all the way back? Or do you plan on bottle necking your entire system right at the y-pipe? Or do you plan on reworking the y-pipe to a 3" outlet? Tellin ya right now 2055's and 3" all the way back into a gmmg sounds real real good...when I finish my camaros motor this winter I will be running the same exact setup.

Re: Dual exhaust with side exit pipe.

I am putting on dual exhaust on my camaro i will show pics when i am done. It can be done but there is lil clearance so its not for everyone that has alot of dips in the road. I used jcwhitney Heartthrob universal dual exhaust that exits right at the end of the door. I hear a lot of controversy of people not like it that way. So when i am done i will show pics of how it looks and the people that want to do it they can see how i did it. So any comments or questions feel free to ask. pics will be up once i am finished. I got driver side already up. The reason i did this is b/c the headers are not made for the camaro when i bought it they were already on them so i fab'd up a dual exhaust to make them fit. They are shorty headers. Well all the people that wanted or curious with dual exhaust hope you like and enjoy. Just remember i am not a mechanic and i did some short cuts in it so :P dont' be to critic on my work. I will fix it once i get more money.

If you are hell bent on the edelbrocks at least modify the y-pipe to 3"...any competent exhaust shop should do it for under $50

Re: New exhaust thoughts

I have the dual exhaust complete i have like 3inches maybe 4inches of clearance for both mufflers. It was a long drawn process to make it fit but it worked.

Member here, Dyno Don sells headers with AIR pipes, like SLPs but better fit, according to those who have used them.

Just put the exhaust on. Has a nice deep rumble to it. This weekend will probably do the headers.
