Re: Borla cat back

well its def a great system, but imo highly over priced. so i guess it depends on how great a deal ur getting.

i'm a firm believer in that u shouldn't settle. so if i really wanted a borla i wouldn't compromise.
so i say go for it. but u have to give us a sound clip when its on.

i have been told how to basicallybuild a c/b ending up with a magnaflow system for under 320. bucks.

here is a sound clip. the car is allitle modified but it will give u a good idea of what it will sound like. let me know if u like and i'll tell u more.
not trying to impose what i like on u,but just giving u something else to think about.

Re: Borla cat back

my biggest complaint with it is it is not a true cb it ties into your intermediate pipe,,,,so you need to keep part of your old system or get more pipe,,,,,I had stainlessworks make up a pipe to go from my cat to the borla cb = more $,,,,3in all the way now though,,,,
the fit seems to hinge on the length of the intermediate pipe as this either pulls or pushes the right side tailpipe..the system is rock solid once it's on an I have never seen quality like this before not your ordinary pipe ,,,I would assume some of the other high $ stainless system are similar but I do not know personally
I don't have a sound clip

thats a very good match on the sound yes I would agree,,,,,I love the low rumble I get cruising down the highway mines only going threw the mufler (right side fully block) an it's just right for me,,,,,,

Re: Borla cat back

A Borla doesnt sound anything like that Magnaflow. Nowhere near it..and if thats upcapped...HA! wait till you hear the Borla uncapped. Totally different sound

Theres a vid of a guy with a Borla/305 on here somewhere and he's running the half plate and that puppy is way louder than that Magna.
I personally run the Borla on my car fully open and its...WELL LETS JUST SAY, KEEP YOUR FOOT OFF IT WHEN GOING BY THE MAN! or he's gonna be right on you.

I had one stop a half a car behind me at a light right at my exhaust and if my friend wouldnt have been behind me Im sure he was going to pull me over. Thats why I putted outta the light.

I wouldnt change it for anything though.

Re: Borla cat back

well it might have to do with the whole exhaust setup to be loud.
Mine is 1 3/4 long tubes, 3"ORY, no cat, and no plate. I got the 4th gen version too and I think the tips may have something to do with it but I dont know bout that as I havent compared. THe round 3rd gen tips look like crap.
I can tell you what, Im louder than anything out here except for another Borla.

This is a vid that shows how loud at Idle and WOT and drive by and then I also heard one in person and was sold.
Yes its an LT1 and modded Im sure with just an exhaust but the sound is SICK!!!! and thats what mine sounds like. SO yeah the SOUND is as loud as poeple make it out to be. If you think thats not loud then I dont know.. Some say obnoxious and too raspy but to each their own.

just my

the only way your exhaust setup differs is long tube headers as opposed to my shortys and the ory... the ory will make a dramatic effect tho, a bit louder and much raspier too good pnt...

thing is your comparing apples to oranges more like grape fruits lol.....

the lt1 engines don't sound much at all like a tpi gen 1 engine....... Sure it's based on the same platform but, its far from the same, heads, cam, and intake make a much different exhaust note. + thats an engine with 45 more cubes than he has.

at the same time my exhaust is loud, much louder than most but, i think hooker and gmgg and others are probably quite close to the same in noise.

I'll get another sound clip of mine tomorow after roller rockers and some tweaking and fixing that lope hopefully (finally found a long awaited vaccumm leak). My clip was with the camera to close to the pipes so it distorts it a lot. It is noisy don't get me wrong but, i've heard louder.

it's noisy when your on it but, under stqandard driving it doesnt make much racket at all.

Re: Borla cat back

yeah I guess your right about the comparison. My build is more towards the LT1 setup.
BUT? the 350 TPI I posted is just like a 305 so shouldnt be that much of a difference I wouldnt think.

Borla rocks, thats all I know. Im happy!

Re: Borla cat back

Wishmaster, REALLY like the sound of your IROC! I have a set of Hooker shorties and the Y-pipe to match along with a TP and a Borla cat-back. Got the Borla for $100 (like new) and the header/Y-pipe for $125. I have an LG4 in my '86 so I know it won't sound near as nasty as yours but it oughta spook a few locals. Thanks for sharing the clip!

Lee

well the system i am getting is used (only like 500-1000 miles on it) has an empty cat with it...getting headers and a y pipe too. all for like 620 bucks i think it is a great deal with the Borla new is 800 bucks. i dont know wat plate is in it but he doesnt have the other plates. but from all the feedback i am getting sounds like it will sound amazing! thanks for the info.

Re: Borla cat back

Borla, headers, y-pipe and all for $620? thats an excellent deal if you ask me. I paid 300 for my Borla used but it was in brand spanking new shape, came with the hangers and all. had to have my Y-pipe custom made though and that set me back $375 and my headers I got for $500 coated. So all in all I got about $1200+ in my exhaust from engine to tips.

Re: Borla cat back

Im guessin yeah cause mine system came off a 99 camaro. 4th gen tips look so much better cause they are rectangular intercooled tips. The 3rd gens are round and if you look at the rears of our cars, there is nothing with the round shape on the back so I just think round looks outta place back there.
