How loud is too loud

During the next three weeks I will be ordering parts and making upgrades to my car. Right now I have a true dual 2.5", not cats and 2 hooker arochambers. I also have hooker shorties. I was wondering how loud would it be if I got rid of this system and set up 2 small collectors with a flange on each side of them so they would bolt to the header then to a purple hornie header glass pack. Basically it would be shorties into purple hornies, the kind that are turned toward the ground.

Re: How loud is too loud

My "setup" is just stock to the hollow (like "free flow" ;-)) cat and then just a 3 inch tube to the back - not a dual exhaust.

Yes, I can drive it at night but only on minimum throttle and up to 1500 rpm. Anything more is just a wake up call for anyone living near by.

The sound is terriffic but just too loud.

I will keep it that way ;-)

Re: How loud is too loud

The way I'm talking about would be aimed at the ground centermass under the car. I know aiming it at the ground can deflect a good bit of noise, and being actually under the car helps a little too.

Re: How loud is too loud

I do not think that it will make any difference. I've been cruising with my car with the exhaust ending at the cat. It wasn't any louder on the outside but in the inside it was irresistible.

These pink tips are sort of glasspacks or what?

Re: How loud is too loud

Yea somthing like that, they are called a header glasspack because they pretty much bolt straight up to the header. I've had a few different systems, first wast stock headers, cat, and a flowmaster single in 2 out with chrome 2'' tips. Next was exactly the same subtract the cat. Then I went with stock headers, no cat, and where the cat once was there was a flowmaster muffler 3" pipe turned dowm at the rear, that was the quietist system I've ever heard on a v8, even quieter than when it was completely stock.

Re: How loud is too loud

I dont mind it being realy loud I geuss what I want is I have to do alot of highway driving, and Im pretty loud rite now, but I dont attract too much attention from cops, but I just dont want to pass a cop sitting in the median and hurt his ears. Like I ran open header once, just across town, and theres no way I could run 70mph without hurting someones ears, I dont want it that loud.

Re: How loud is too loud

It's really loud only when you step on it even with no muffler at all... But what would worry me is the fact that those pink things would end right under the seats. It would be loud inside. And I mean really loud. A pair of glasspacks on a 69 Valiant with mildly tuned 318 sounded only a bit quieter than my car.

I would buy a Borla cat back and an electrically operated cut out. If I had enough money...

Or just tell someone to build such an exhaust for you. Exhaust ending under the car smells a lot in the jam and so on, it's really not that comfortable...

And you do not really need dual exhaust, do you?

Just my two cents.

I would keep what you have also. You will have alot better sound with the system you have than with headers and purple hornies

Re: How loud is too loud

i'll be honest, if you're gonna upgrade your exhaust, do it right with a set of long tubes then true duals to match.. seeing that your car has a 356? either 2.5" or 3" duals would be good.. depending on your power output 2.5" should be enough.. purple hornies are just gonna make it sound different.. long tubes and the same exhaust you have currently will net you more power than swapping mufflers.. if you want to change the sound, change the muffler in your current setup..

another thing to add, you will get alot more vibration with the purple hornies since it ends under the car.. and turning the tips towards each other will cancel sound better than straight to the ground.. at a 45degree angle, not literally towards each other.. if you know what i mean..

Re: How loud is too loud

Yes I know exactly what you mean I considered that. The current setup is ok, it has excess vibration already, no ground clearance, and maybe this wouldnt bother some of you but it really irks me that the tips are not even. The mufflers are in the way of the gas tank and I will be dropping it soon to change a fuel pump, also gives me reason to get rid of it.

Re: How loud is too loud

I only decided on the purple hornies because of the way the flange is. With a small curved piece for each header they look like they would bolt rite up. What would you use?

Re: How loud is too loud

well im an owner of glass packs side pipes with flowtechs headers, and however i do love them, but my buddy with hoorker 2055s 3"catback exhaust system and i thought glass pack was the sh*t and hell i do love the glass packs sound, but there isnt nothing like some deep tone flowmaster sound

Re: How loud is too loud

O no, lol. Ive owned two flomaster setups, Im only 20, I prefer to be obscenly offensive, when I get 45 and want it to be quiet, Il go with a flowmaster. Like I said before the only decibal goal I have is to not attract cops. But what the he11 theres always nuetral for when I go by them

Re: How loud is too loud

I think flomasters are a more classy sound but I want people to have to yell in my car, I'd like to be the loudest thing on the road if its possable, imature I know but I cant just snap out of it over night. Ive always wanted to know how it would feel if my dd was rediculously loud and mean sounding, so I must do this if I ever want to grow up.

Re: How loud is too loud

i understand you wanting the purple hornies they would bolt right up two you headers depending on how long the hornies are may cause them not two work, and sence you live in Tn the cops arent really worried about how loud exhaust is for the most part, at least not around here however theres always the as* hole rookie cop just waiting two pull someone in a camaro over for anything and pile the tickets on, but if you dont drive your camaro everyday like i do and just pull it out on the weekends and cause havoc... ill say go with the purple hornies and **** the world off . Im from Henry county and i know of a couple of boys that drive beat up rusted out fords trucks with open manifolds running around town and probably will never get pulled over for there loud junk, but the first time i ever went into town with open headers on my camaro i would be labled as a threat to saciaty and have tickets comeing out of my asz.

Re: How loud is too loud

I live in louisiana now but Im from hendersonville. As far as cops down here, Im not woried about in town its those state boys on the highway that worry me. Although Im pretty loud now, so I kinda think if they havent decided to fu(k me yet maybe they wont. I know everyone on this board hates glasspacks but these perticular ones can be made to bolt right up, so in a sense they best fit the application I think.

Go to http://www.paintballtipps.com/pictur...aust%20002.jpg and youl see what Im talking about. The only difference I would make would be to angle them a little more towards each other.

Well Ive got an idea that all Id need would be 2 curved collectors with 3 bolt flange on each side.

mabie it would work.. just take some measurements and make sure befor you spend some $$ on some hornies just in case they dont work, or just keep your receipt.

Re: How loud is too loud

No Ive never heard that kind of setup, but the thing is that requires a system that exits after the rear rite? Its not really just loudness Im looking for, Im stuck on this setup because of how cheap I could do this, and I have to drop the tank in a week or two, so the exhaust has to come of, and Ive had nothing but problems with it since I got it. Honestly I dont want it to be abnoxious, I realy am not aiming for that, I just need a cheap system that I could possably instal myself without welding.
