Replacing stock catback and cat
Replacing stock catback and cat
I am going to be replacing my stock catback and cat when i go back to the states in july for leave. It will get replaced with a 3rd gen magnaflow catback and a 59959 catback, which is a 3' in and out. my question is what will i need to mate the stock Y up to this 3' system just for the time i am home ( almost 2 and half weeks) I have not decided on what headers or y pipe to go with yet.
My plan is to give her a new gm 350 HO motor after this tour im on now. but while im home for leave i want to start giving her some mods that wont be too time consuming, so i figured replacing the cat back and cat wouldnt take too long. like i said i will be eventually giving her headers and a y. so to get to the point , just want to know what i will need to mate stock y to cat? just some adapters that will take 2 1/4 to 3"? or would i be better off just taking it to muffler shop and have them do the temporary fix to her?

Welcome to TGO. I'm not really answering your question, jamie, but throwing out some food for thought. My unfortunate experience is to spend more money than I need to because I'm in a hurry--and often that means "not doing it right the first time." The following system, a direct-fit, three-inch set-up, is what I'm running with my 350 HO Deluxe. Recommended.
Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

If thats what your going to do, You need to buy a reducer to mate your 3 inch cat to your factory 2 1/4" y-pipe. They don't make 3-> 2 1/4" reducers so you (at least I couldn't find any last year), so you'll have to use a 3"-> 2 1/2" reducer and then fill the rest of the 1/4" gap buy welding it.
I had my exhaust shop do that because I wanted the 3" catback and 3" cat with the option of getting headers in the future.

this will be just a temporary thing anyway. temporary meaning like 7 to 8 months of no driving due to me being out of the country. i dont want to do more than just replacing the cat and cat back while im home on leave. is there a 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 reducer. that could be matched up to a 2 1/2 to 3". i know that would be ghetto, but it is just temporary

Yea that would be really ghetto haha, but I would think there is a 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 reducer. If you plan on doing this yourself and can't weld that might be your only option, but with the amount of money you'll spend on ANOTHER reducer you might be able to pay somebody to weld the thing. If you get stumped I can always post a picture of how mine was done.
