Pics of my new exhaust

I just had a 3" Pypes Violator muffler . The muffler is supposed to be their loudest and flow as much as their race muffler. I had a Blowmaster 80 series crossflow on it with dual 3.5" tips. I just got tired of the typical look of the duals with big tips( this is how I bought it). Plus I hated the sound of the Fowmaster anyway. The exhaust is now 3" single all the way back and exits of the driver side just like a stock muffler on a 6cyl. I wanted it to resemble the Mufflex exhaust kit only in 3". Suprisingly at idle the car is only a little louder than stock, but when you it the gas it gets LOUD!!!! (especially when driving). Definately sounds better than the previous exhaust and it picked up quite a bit. I can definately feel the difference. I wish I could figure out how to take a video of it but I don't have a digital video camera only the old school type with a tape. Anyway here are some pics. It is now a sleeper other than the welds and gauges giving it away:

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

NO. Like it says in the beginning it is a PYPES Vilolator. It is a stainless straight through design. Here is a link to their website if you want more info on the muffler: http://www.pypesexhaust.com/mufflers.html

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

What did the muffler cost? Looks like it could have been installed better with a little more work, the front of the old system was reused and they didn't take time to correctly fit the muffler so it's not level like it could be. And I would have cut the tip on a slash cut level with the ground.

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

The muffler was $57.99 from Summit Racing. As far as the slash cut goes I didn't really think about it or really care because I wanted it to look stock. You can't see it anyway unless you squat down or get down on your hands and knees it is barely noticeble. I noticed the muffler on the angle I think he may have done that for clearance because I had him try to tuck the muffler up a little closer than what it was. either way you can really tell and I'm happy with the job. It's not a show car so I don't think that many people will be looking under it anyway but thanks for the feedback.

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

Yeah I paid some one to weld it up. I bought the mandrel bends from Summit Racing. So what if the muffler is a little tilted. You can't see it unless you are on the ground . I didn't see a problem with it when I watched him set it up. I'm satified and that's all that counts. If I had a welder I would have done it myself but I don't so that's why I had someone do it. I just posted the pics too show an alternative to what else you could do besides using the typical crappy sounding crossflow muffler namely Flowmaster. Magnaflow's and Hooker's sounded good but I wanted it to look stock just in 3".

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

I like it, looks good, do you happen to have a sound clip? and post a pics from the side. I am a fan of not seeing the exhaust from all angles, just see the dirt moving on the ground

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

i think its kind of neat. it makes it look stock but its actually not. i would get rid of the stickers though and if you really dont want it to be notice i would spray the pips with high heat black like on mine. i got tired of standing back and seeing the silver pips and black tips. but mine too looks like stock.

Oh yeah Duck2292 with your measly 17 posts obviously you are newbie. Watch who your bashing. I read your posts and you obviously know nothing about cars.

I don't mind a little constructive criticism like the other did but when you make demeaning comments about my car and don't have any good advice/feedback to give me I don't take it lightly. I know I have not been on here that long either but at least I try to give good advice, ask questions I need help with and take constructive criticism w/o getting offended.

Please do not comment if you don't have anything good to say. Everybody has their own taste and ideas of what they like on their cars.
What's with the 'tude, man? If all you expect/allow are positive comments, the discussion is going to be pretty limited, don't you think?

While I wouldn't necessarily agree with all of the comments, none of them go beyond the Board rules. Certainly don't merit your "bashing" conclusion (your response to Duck2292 could be considered such, though). If you have a problem with the way people are posting, don't respond in kind, report it to a Moderator (you've been around long enough to know how to do that, I presume).

FWIW, this spring I went from the conventional 80 series Flow to a single in/out Magnaflow, and love it - quieter, which is what I wanted, and the car picked up in the 1/4 mile, which didn't surprise me but was welcome. Look at my thread on the topic - some people's responses weren't exactly "rational". No reason to lash back.

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

five7kid I was venting because the comment was not helpful at all and I felt he was just making a very unnecesary. If the comment is negative then it should be with constructive criticism ie give a reason for why you don't like it. I know everybody isn't going to like it and that's okay. I will delete my comment . To everybody else I do plan on painting it high heat black; I took the pics when I got back from the shop. I will try to figure out how to post a sound byte. I don't know if I would say it sounds like an old musle car but it's definately different. It is definately loud when you are on it hard and it definately has a crackle to it.I will also get pics from the side too. Stay tuned for the sound byte. It may be a week or so. The car is going to get tuned on the dyno and have some other work done to it next week.

Also if someone can tell me how to create a sound byte I would appreciate it.Thanks

One other thing The car definately picked up a few HP. I can definately feel a difference. Can't wait to finish it and get to the track.

Understood. Better to be the duck and let those comments be the water.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with sidepipes, but mention them around here and

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

I'm interested to hear a soundclip. I was at the GM carlisle event this past weekend and Pypes is always there and I got a chance to check out the design of their violater muffler and its very unique. Straight through via a chambered (Ie: Stainless works chambered) passage. They actually make a crossflow version for our cars too.

I think my magnaflow is a little on the quiet side so if i don't end up getting headers next year I might be looking to make my exhaust alittle louder and this muffler seems pretty legit, but I haven't heard it on a 3rdgen...

love the no thrills sleeper theme going on here but wtf is up with the muffler's name? "violator?" whats next on the list? the "rapist 3000?" lol...

seriously though, clean setup, can't wait to hear clips!

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

Meh, its not my cup of tea...but I think tucking the 'tip' so it wouldn't be seen would of been a much better idea. The workmanship isn't good by any means, but its a decent backyard job and it should get the job done. And as long as you're happy...

Re: Pics of my new exhaust

Duck2292 you didn't hurt my feelings. What I was saying is that you made a negative comment and left it at that rather than giving a reason for why you made the comment. Other than the muffler being tilted I don't see what is wrong with the job that is done. Maybe it doesn't look so hot with the surface rust on the old pipe and the stickers left on the pipes but like I said as soon as I got home from the shop I took the pics. I plan on sanding the pipes to get rid of the stickers and surface rust and paint it high heat black. Maybe I'll repost some pics and see what you guys think then.

Anyway back on topic the tip is tucked up. I took the pics on my hands and knees so you can see what it looks like under the car. From the driver's side view you can barely see the bottom edge of the tip. From the rear you can't see it unless you are on the ground or standing back about 20-30ft.

Lastly it has a carb ZZ4 in it backed by a 5spd and 10 bolt posi w/ 3.73 .All I need is to get it tuned, weld in my SFC's, get my adjustable Spohn Torque arm and new sway bars and it's done for now. Future plans are to get an aftermarket rear, cam swap (Comp Cams Muthr Thumper and head swap. Here are a couple of pics (not the best):

Car now has skinnys on the front and obviously the tail pipes are gone. Still have to clean up some of the wires in the engine compartment but its good enough for now. Pics were taken at dusk so they didn't come out that good.
