Flowmaster 80 Series
I searched and still had a couple of questions about the 80 series. How much power can be expected by swapping on an 80 series over a factory muffler? How much louder is the 80 series than stock (idle to WOT). And for everybody out there that has one, what do you like about them and what dont you like about them?

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
I don't know about power gain but the sound is awsome when i fire mine up it goes loud enough to get people to turn around and look to see what it was the smoothes out to a nicely toned idle wot isnt super loud if you listen to music alot i wouldnt suggest this muffler unless you have a good system because you wont hear your radio very good. by the way i have all stock exhaust except the flowmaster.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
I had one with stock exhaust, then with headers. Nice idle, pretty loud, nice bass to it. Driving around normal it sounded good too. But anything over 3000 RPM in my opinion sounded great. It had a real growl to it and was pretty loud.
Of course, after more exhaust mods like a High flow cat, 3" pipeing, and headers, it gets louder.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
Anybody know how much better these mufflers flow than stock or compared to other aftermarket mufflers? I have heard that the flowmasters are poor flowing mufflers but I dont really believe that they can be that bad.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
maybe 2 hp....what do you have done to your car now?? most of your sound will come with modifications to the motor...everyone has a diff opinion about flowmaster...i prefer hooker aero chamber..a bit quiet (unless your motor is built up) then it sounds great...again just my opinion...hope it helps

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
i think mine sounds pretty crappy, but it also has a small hole in it, poppy and crappy but once it hits exactly 3000 rpms (maybe cos of my stall) thats just the "magic zone" it immediatley opens open and roars

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
cam and headers will deffinetly help the sound the flowmaster makes...sometimes you can check out youtube and find exhaust clips similar to what you want and see if you like the sound...to me flowmaster is on everyones car and sounds like a tin can...to each his own tho...hope that helps at all...

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
Just got my 80 series about 5 hours ago and I gotta say I like it. It sounds magical till around 3000 rpm but then it kinda craps out as far as tone goes. Kinda sounds like my bro's k5 with open pipes. I'm hoping it gets better after I break it in. It's definitely louder than stock but not too loud for me. Even with cheapo pepboys speakers it doesn't drown out my stereo and that was with the t-tops off. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
I have an 80s flowmaster in my 92 camaro. When I had the 305 engine in I thought it did sound nicer over the stock muffler. After I put my 383 in it just sounded that much better. Over all I'm quite satisfied with it I love the sound of it cruising and even more so at WOT. I've heard people call Flowmasters Blowmasters but from my experience they're great mufflers. To each their own I suppose...

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
Ohhh, ok.
Very simple. If you have a healthy decent HP engine, and let's say you switch from a cross muffler like an 80 series to a straight through muffler, I agree you'll see a gain for sure. If you have a L03, LB9, L98 that's stock or close to it, your lucky if you'll see a few HP difference. That's why I always tell people get what YOU think sounds the best.

I loved my 80 series. I recently switched mufflers though, time for a change and I wanted a little louder.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
When i got my exhaust done on my 1991 Formula (305) I ordered the 80 series flowmaster muffler..high flo cat..and 22" Long 3.5" diameter tips..And when the exhaust was getting put on they called me out to the shop when they had the muffler and highflow cat on and we started it up to listen and i wasnt all that impressed cuz i wanted it to be loud..Well 20 minutes later they welded on my big tips..and OMG!! It was alot louder..Big diameter tips will actually make your exhaust deeper, louder, and throatier!! So to answer your question..ya the flowmaster muffler has a great sound to it..And i could tell a difference in performance as well!

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
ok what the hell??
I JUST Put a 80's series on my 86 iroc with stock 305 and stock exhaust, and its QUIET!! like not even loud, at all, I really cant notice a difference as far as sound goes from the stock one. Kinda disappointed. But gives it some performance.

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
There's your problem. Get a high flow cat, and 3" pipeing. That along with some break in time for the muffler and it will be louder.

I have a TPI. And like it is not loud, Idk maybe im just use to loud cars? my dad has a full built 340 Duster, and its loud, I dont consider this loud. It has 3" pipes from the cat back, then 2,5" outlets, Stock manifold, all that. Its NOT loud lol. Maybe just need to get rid of the old rusted out cat.

My dad's stock ram charger has a very nice sound just when he presses the gas and I wanted something similar for my camaro. I was kind of down the first day I had the flowmasters, but since I've been driving it more often it's getting that deep tone that I'm looking for.
I would say to definitely let it take its time to break in. A few peel-outs here and there wouldn't hurt either.

You must not have read my thread on the topic.
I don't miss mine at all. In fact, I'd like to have the garage space that it is currently taking up. If you really want one, I'll make you a deal. 3" inlet, dual 2-1/2" outlet. Comes with tailpipes if you like.
I still don't get this "break in" thing. Mine sounded the same from the day I put it on the hopped-up 305 to the day I took it off of the current 350.

I just put a powerstick muffler on my car. I noticed a change in sound when the muffler started to build up soot inside. Nothing huge, but noticeable.

I keep hearing it about Flowmasters.
Maybe I just don't produce enough soot. . .

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
If you are building up "soot" to the extent that it changes the sound of ANY muffler, you need a tune done by somebody that knows what they are doing in a BAD kinda way!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And of of you all wonder why you can't pass a sniffer????????????

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
Take the exhaust of any car, and it is not going to be clean inside. Most likely, it will be black. That's what the inside of a muffler will look like to. My cars tune if fine. It has also been datalogged, not rich or lean. As I stated above, it was a slight change. I can't speak from experience about the 80 series changing sound. Many members say they do, can they all be crazy?
Gut your cat. You will get plenty of soot and like 20hp, I swear...

Re: Flowmaster 80 Series
I had an 80 series on my V6 (my '96 firebird)and it wasnt loud in the cab, But if you was outside of the car and somebody else was driving its alot louder and more noticible.
I think it just seems quiet since your inside the car and the pipes are going out the back, I KNOW you guys V8's have gotta be louder then my lil V6.
