Re: headers question

They replace your exhaust manifolds. I personally like hooker headers. They can be installed by yourself but they will take some time to do.

Re: headers question

so basically what Ill have to do is take apart a good portion of the top of the engine, put the headers on the exhaust manifold then weld the headers to my exhaust system?

Re: headers question

Take the exhaust manifolds off, then bolt the headers to your cylinder heads. Hooker sells their own y-pipes that bolt up to their headers.

Hooker 2055HKR are made for '86-'90 TPI single cat applications. They include a y-pipe (arguably the best production one available). They will bolt into the system (with a couple of minor modifications, explained in the installation instructions http://static.summitracing.com/globa...ok-2055hkr.pdf ).

They might not fit your definition of "fairly cheap", but spend any less, and you're going to pay for it one way or another.

Re: headers question

thanks five7kid. from reading the instructions it seems a bit much for a novice to be pulling out so many components of the engine and whatnot.

Well, what have you done? Changed oil? Changed spark plugs? Filled up the gas tank?

You have to start somewhere. While this isn't the best task to undertake in the apartment parking lot, it isn't something that can't be done with basic hand tools and jack stands/ramps. Having someone help who has some experience is always a bonus.
