I have a set of original SLP Tri-Y's on my GTA and I have a slight exhaust leak and would like to tighten all of my header bolts.

I noticed it's a torx like star pattern in the bolt head but they are so close to the header tube I cannot reach then with my torx bits because all I have are torx made for a 1/4" ratchet.

I guess I'm looking for a tool that would look like a giant "L" shaped allen wrench but of course torx, or whatever TF these SLP bolt heads use.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm hoping Sears would have such a thing?

Any hardware store should have such a thing.

 

It looks like I described them wrong, lol.

Attached is an image from SLP's web site of what they are. They say they are 12-pt. I'm sure any hardware store would have it but I don't even know what it's called let alone what size they are or even they are even rated with different sizes and stuff, lol

 

Not Torx then. You need a 12 point socket or box wrench.

Hmm, a 12-pt box wrench sounds like it would do the job since a socket is NO WAY fitting in next to those header tubes, lol. I have the 1 5/8" Tri-Y's.

Not a clue. It'll be an SAE size though, not metric.

 

K, thanks! I'll see if I can get a socket that's even close to fitting and go from there. I can't imagine Sears would be happy about letting my take tools out to the parking lot to try, lmao.

It was 3/8 and Snap-On had the tool for $40.

 

40 bux!!

all you needed was a crappy 12 pt 3/8 wrench, then grind it down to fit between the header tube.

 

Yup, any garden-variety 3/8" 12-point socket or wrench fits that head.

 

Except all of the ones that I found were to fat walled. The Snap-On was VERY thin walled and worked perfectly with ease and was wobble too which made it even better.

2 dollar 3/8 wrench + 20 seconds with angle grinder = thin walled wrench

 

I just had to do that for my Dyno Don Headers. I took a cheap 3/8 combo wrench, cut off the open end and ground down the box end real thin in order to get on the bolt to turn it.
