Exhaust Fitment
Ok, so, i have an '85 z28, all stock, and was wanting to give it a little more, "American rumble" per say.
I was looking at this magnaflow kit http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...ustsystem.aspx and was wondering if it would be just a direct fit on the stock system, or if i would need to upgrade the rest of the system with it.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
It's not a direct fit, because the cat outlet connection is different than yours. Otherwise, it is.

Both ends of the cat are different. What you linked is a "universal" cat, which would require modification on both ends to install. Plus, it's only 2.5".
Makes more sense to modify the cat-back to fit your existing cat.
By the way, what engine do you have? I know it's a 305, but is it carb or TPI? If carb, the standard LG4 (VIN code "H"), or L69 (VIN code "G")?

The "right" thing to do would be to do the whole exhaust with '86-'90 TPI single-cat application stuff. Hooker 2055HKR headers have a 3" outlet y-pipe, Catco 9118 cat, and it'll all bolt together (except the A.I.R. - the driver's side check valve fitting faces to the back instead of to the front like stock).
Since your car is an LG4, the universal cat you linked would actually be an upgrade. But, if all you want to do is the cat and exhaust, the above-mentioned Catco 9118 could be adapted to your stock y-pipe, and the cat and exhaust would bolt together. Then, if you wanted to do headers later, cut the stock y-pipe off of the cat, hook the headers up.

Re: Exhaust Fitment
Ok, thanks alot for your help.
SO i could get the catco 9118, the magnaflow kit, and then just adapt the cat to my y-pipe?
As far as adapting it, would it just be some welding of an adapter pipe or what not?
Thanks.
