small resonator off of a dump? any suggestions?
small resonator off of a dump? any suggestions?
I have an 84 with a set of hooker shortys and their Y pipe. I eliminated the cat and substituted a cut out pipe. The cut out pipe has a race ready electronic flap on it to seal it off when i want to be quiet. This will push exhaust throught the stock muffler in rear. So what I need is a very small resinator or muffler to put on the open side of the cut out to give me some tone when I'm running open headers. Right now it kinda sounds like a 84 pick up
The headers are hooked to a GM Performance 330 deluxe crate engine, 0 miles. thanks

Huh, lack of posts.... interesting
Well, are you just wanting some kind of muffler on there? My single chamber FLO's are small, have the flomaster tone (much louder!!!!) and are said to enhance scavenging. Flomaster also has these straight style(outlaw I believe) that employ internal rings.
There are a ton of compact mufflers. Dynomax bullets are another popular choice, as well as split flow. It's really up to you in what you want, or what you want to spend.
I will ask though, is your car tuned to run a cut out? Or are you just looking to be loud from time to time? Either way is just fine, your car is your individualtiy. What I'm getting at is, some cars actually lose bottom end power by the lack of back pressure.

There really isnt a lot of room under the car to put what you're asking for. Cut outs are designed to be wide open, not to have another muffler after them. But I bet if you search a Jegs or Summit catalog online you can find something small like you want.
However, remember its a violation of federal emissions laws to run without a cat on a street car in the United States. It doesnt matter if your area does tests or not, as its a federal law.
