3 in exhaust system but with out muffler?
I'm kinda looking around for exhaust systems, I already have a muffler in mind I want to use, but most exhaust systems include the muffler, and also I dont like how they made these exhaust systems like this one:

I want to get rid of the muffler in that position, and have the muffler in the middle where the circle is.
I want the pipes after the rear axle loop to be connecting.

is there an exhaust kit I can get that will have the pipes but I supply my own muffler? if so that would be great,
Thanks,
Tim

If you would look under you car and check the area you are thinking of installing said muffle, you might have a clearnce problem. A little tight under there.

Why do you want the muffler there?
If the pipe is 3", the case is probably 5" and it will hit stuff on the ground...
Some options...
I have a flowmaster (I'm sure others make it too) cat back that the muffler is in the stock place, but it has 1 in / 1 out, and a shorter tail pipe (doesn't stick out the back, meant to be hidden / stealth... I actually painted it black with heat paint... These flow better than the standard 1 in / 2 out you pictured...

They do make those thin mufflers... or maybe an electric cut out might be an addition you want...
Also remember, most "kits" you buy are mandrel bent, smooth turns, most muffler shops make crush bends, not smooth corners that restrict flow...

the only mufflers you will be able to fit in the tunnel are bullet mufflers (very loud). If you really want it in the tunnel, you will have to do a lot of cutting and fabrication, probably resulting in the loss of the back seats.

hmm, didnt think about that, I was thinking about a bullet muffler or a spintech muffler, but neither of those will have one inlet and two outlets like the flowmaster mufflers, or a catback. and I guess I could two mufflers before the exhaust tips, two of them of each side, but I hear thats hard to do too.

If you have a black muffler, you won't be able to see it from the back unless you're on your knees or squatting.
If you look at this pic, you can just barely see the silver over the axle piece of pipe. It goes into a black Flowmaster that I never saw while walking around the back of the car.

Only thing you ever saw was the tailpipe ends.

Re: 3 in exhaust system but with out muffler?
I'm not worried about people seeing the muffler at the end. its just mostly the muffler it self. I kinda never had a big thing for flowmasters or most known brand mufflers. I also kinda like the sound of spintech mufflers or the bullet mufflers, but their straight through mufflers. which is what making this kinda differcult because I don't got alot of room to play with, and the car is pretty low to the ground, so I could picture the muffler dragging all the time.
I do have my mind set for the spintech mufflers, its alot different sound than most people have for thier camaro's.
EDIT: Alright, well I have an idea what Im going to do, I didnt think spintech had muffler that have a one inlet and duel outlet.
I can't say Im really doing this with a purpose. alot of things Im doing is kinda with out a purpose. when I got my car, I guess the only reason why I do most things with it, was I wanted it to be my dream car since I was a freshman, and I've been working hard for it within the last two years I've had the car, replacing most parts, bought a new engine for it with a 6 speed, new speakers, subs, going to get a new amp for it, just recently bought procar bucket seats for it, and I still want to get new tires and rims for it, I'm hoping maybe I can find a place that can custom make seats that will match my procar seats, and my friend's convinced me to put 4.11 gears with a posi in my 10 bolt, since all the other rear axles are more expensive for my pocket book to get, and maybe put stronger axles in, and maybe get a cylinder heads and a new intake and a new carb, but that'll be far I'll go, since I like what I have for the rest of my engine parts. I'm not really satisfied with my exhaust, it sounds good and I dont have any leaks far as I know, but most of my friends wants me to change out my puny exhaust system for a 3 inch, and I do agree with them.
I know alot of this sounds dumb, but it kinda became my hobby and its mostly my fun car, but since I got my new engine and transmission, only time I ever got hard on it was when we wanted to see what power it had (after I put 1000 miles on it, for safe reasons.) and see if I can do a burn out with it, but I was just doing a one wheel peel, and I dislike the fact my friend's laughed about that. :-\
But if I find the muffler too loud or get pulled over for it, I'll go look for a different muffler that will replace the spintech muffler. but I do like taking my chances, even if It gets me into trouble (not real big trouble, just enough to **** off someone eventually.)

My system is the SLP Loudmouth catback. It's exactly what you described. I have Hedman LT's into a custom 3" Y-pipe, 3" spun cat that goes into 3" tube with a Dynomax Bullet muffler in the I-pipe, then the SLP LM over the axle to have dual tips. Wish I had pics of this. Sounds awesome, really loud and have no clearance problems.

Looks like chambered mufflers would be just the thing for you, they have different lenghts for different sound level and for 3" pipe the diam. is only 3.5". Later.

I have what you want, on my GTA.....
http://www.texas-speed.com
If you asked, that mght even be willing to make you one muffler-less. Just don't tell them your putting your own muffler in...
They might not like that.
This 1st video was my first attempt at blending music in, so the exhaust sound gets turned down (but never up that what was recorded from inside) at certain ponts.

Re: 3 in exhaust system but with out muffler?
well right now ive got a edelbrock sdt cat-back and its got the stock style tips that tuck up under car so you dont see them. I love the hidden tips on a trans am.
But yah the edelbrock sdt is brand new so it will prolly be a while before i can sell it off lol

Re: 3 in exhaust system but with out muffler?
You could get a slp loudmouth or tsp rumbler system and install a spintech pro street or pro shoot out muffler where the slp resonator would be. I've always wanted to hear what that would sound like. I wouldn't have a cat just the pro street muffler. That should sound wicked.

This is a vid of my old 357ci motor. Ported 462 heads, Torker cam and intake, 650DP, Hooker shorties w/custom 3" ypipe and the rest of the system is the same now with the LT's. I don't have any vids/clips of the new motor though sorry.

Re: 3 in exhaust system but with out muffler?
I had that TSP rumbler on my '02 WS6. It comes with a dynomax bullet in the same place you want the muffler.
I replaced the bullet with a single chamber flowmaster. It was tight but it fit, still it would hit the back U joint on the driveshaft if I wasnt careful. I wouldnt recommend anything other than a small bullet or glasspack style muffler in the I pipe.
