Stock exhaust gaskets help
I have an 84 T/A with a stock LG4 (305) carbed engine I have a loud ticking coming from the passenger side. Im pretty sure its an exhaust leak, I called O'reileys and got the part # for the manifold gaskets but unfortunatly they dont list any doughnuts for them could anyone here point me in the right direction as far as what size and do they even have them on this model. I dont have the extra money or I would have already bought headers for it so thats out of the question. Also I know its not the A.I.R lines running down because for now I have the rubber hose linking them together so they do nothing.

Re: Stock exhaust gaskets help
It is probably the EFE valve. As they wear out exhaust starts to leak from the pivot shaft. The valve on my '84 T/A leaks when it goes from closed to open.

Re: Stock exhaust gaskets help
There are no gaskets between the heads and the exhaust manifolds, either.

hmm and let me guess no one make a spacer to take up the space if you remove the valve?

I've got a valve in good condition available if that's your problem. Pay for shipping, it's yours.

Re: Stock exhaust gaskets help
ok Up datte time
, me and dad pulled both manifolds off and disconnected the exhaust at the cat converter, come to find out there was a tear in the exhaust pipe and also 2 more leaks from the manifold being loose and the collector being loose, so while it was off we cleaned all the surfaces and plugged off the AIR tubes with 1/4 npt brass fittings with teflon ( I know this is a heated discussion on thread size but the 1/4 brass with work since brass will conform) also i took a look inside the cat converter and noticed it was prety stopped up so we hollowed it out with a steel rod and mounted everything back up, Oh we also put on a set of steel drop in manifold gaskets just to be safe. fired her up and she ran much better and no more leaks.
Thanks to all for your help, perhaps now when I see this asked I can chime in and lend a hand now
