new exhaust setup
here is something i have been wondering about for a while now..we don't have great clearance under our cars right..i have designed a setup that is not round piping..but it is rectangle tubing..1 inch high by 4 inch. wide .it is a little bigger than a 3 inch pipe and won't take as much room under the car.will also allow more air flow.... only thing i have left on it is to make an adapter from rectangular to round...i think it will work and we can have a true dual on our cars with no clearance problems

Re: new exhaust setup
I have never heard of a rectangular exhaust, there has got to be some kind of draw back, or the manufactures would of made this already. I don't know how your going to do it when it comes to being over the rear axle though

Re: new exhaust setup
it is going to have to be welded into the joints you need to make it over the axle not that hard just a few angles and a tig welder..no draw back on it the just cant bend rectangle tubeing..has to be welded together..that would have slowed down there production time when i get it done i'll take some pics on the ground and installed..

Re: new exhaust setup
rectangular piping will cause a bottle neck as soon as the round tubing hits it, becasue the air will be forced to squish and expand out, lots of back pressure can be expected.

Re: new exhaust setup
thats why i have a reducer on it..take a peice of round stock and mash it at on end with a slite grade to it..i'll get some fab work done and post some pics..hopefully by this weekend..
i might go with 2inch by 4 inch tubing..still have it on auto cad on computer to do the design

Re: new exhaust setup
hummmmmm......sounds like an interesting concept. However I believe the reason for it not being done before is because of area efficiency. A two by two inch tube has more area than a two by two inch square pipe. It does sound like you have figured out it will take a bigger rectangular tubing to make up the same flow are as a circle or oval tube. Bigger means more material and thus more weight. Another factor to consider is the ease of assembling, since everything would have to be welded (no clamps or bands for them) and welded off the car since welding the top side of would be somewhat challenging. Please don’t take this as a deterrent. I think it would something interesting to see on a show car or just something different in general. I would love to see the picts when you are done.
