will all long tubes scrape
I really would rather have hooker long tubes but then i might want to lower the car also. So i wanted to know are there any long tube headers that will fit properly and not scrape the ground when i hit a pot hole or go up a drive way?

Re: will all long tubes scrape
I have Hooker 2210s and my car is lowered about 2 inches and EVERYTHING scrapes, including the headers, but also the chin spoiler and my exhaust. The headers are really not to big of a deal though, it is the chin spoiler(lower valance, air dam, hell, I do not know wht to call it). That thing scrapes in every driveway, and it always takes off paint! So the collecters getting a little road rash seems minor!

Re: will all long tubes scrape
I remember seeing some odd 1 1/2 dia long-tubes that were designed to follow the stock exhaust routing, so were pretty well tucked up. The might have worked OK on a stock 305, but for any serious performance use, the tube diameters are too small.
Of the larger headers, the Hedmans have a 'Flat' collector, and require going with a remote filter and a mini-starter to fit, and will probably not scrape, but the problem is then where do you run your headpipes? You might need to do "oval" sections to get past the trans crossmember area. Our cars are just not designed to run twin pipes along the driveshaft anywhere.

I have had bot the hedman and the hooker long tubes, and neither have given me oil filter issues, and only the hookers needed a mini starter.

My hedman longtubes with a double hump crossmember NEVER scrape. It actually has more clearance that when I used to run the stock system.. These are a few pics from another post on the left you can barely see the header collector.. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...45-post41.html

Re: will all long tubes scrape
I agree about the hedmans. I have them and have the stock oil filter location. I have never tried a regular style starter on it, i believe if you go with any LT header you should have a mini starter just to make one thing a little easier on you. Anybody on here that has done LT's will tell you that they are a PAIN to install / remove or anything. I cussed them every bit of the way putting them in the first time. Get some plug wire fire boots so u dont burn your plug wires up. But the look and performance is probably worth it. And make sure u know a good exhaust shop to hook u up. I dated the owners daughter and it still cost me $600 bucks. I have a Y pipe right after the trans xmember into a single 3" pipe that runs along the drive shaft over the rear into a flowmaster 80 series and dual 3.5" chrome tips.

Re: will all long tubes scrape
The hedman headers with the ball/socket ends work well. I have a stock starter, a little annoying to install but not too bad. I just do the starter and header at the same time. --get the header on its way up, then place the starter into it, then bolt up the header with 2 bolts, then bolt on the starter.
My car has stock height springs in it and true dual exhaust that runs tight to the car, AND under the stock cross member. I have never scraped the bottom.
